Looking for a new 2016 F80 in California?

Hi All - I'm new to the forum and just wanted to seek some advice...

These cars are clearly scarce, but I found a dealer that has a few of them in stock. The best deal I'm getting (even after current rebates) is around $3k above invoice. I've seen on the threads here that folks are getting much better deals than I've seen, albeit outside CA... Should I just bite the bullet or any guidance/suggestions?

My local dealer said he sells them at MSRP if they ever get any that make it to the showroom, he said most of the time the cars are sold before they get to their dealership!

Spec:
Silverstone Metallic, Extended Black Merino, Exec Pkg, Auto Transmission, M Handling...

MSRP $73795
Sale Price $71295
Invoice ~$68000

Cheers in advance!

A lot of areas in CA are pretty bad for buying Ms, a lot of people happily pay MSRP so dealers see no reason to discount their cars. Khoi at long beach is a name everyone throws around who gives pretty good deals, but getting an allocation might be hard.

David and Jimmy at Steve Thomas BMW are giving better deals than that. I paid less than that with more options.

If you want to pick from cars in stock and not place an order you'll have to deal with the dealers who have them. If you're willing to place an order you can save significantly more. The two posts above my show where you should start your search.

Thanks. Are you referring to ED or simply placing a custom order and the car gets delivered to the dealer in the US?

Just placing a custom order in general, either an ED or a standard US delivery. I did a custom order car and had it delivered to the dealer here in the US. Would have loved to do ED but timing just didn't work out at this point in my life.

Hey Harrowboy,

I'm also in the market for a 2016 M3 in SoCal so I was pleasantly surprised to see this thread. Been following the main pricing thread for a while now and just started to reach out to dealers. Hoping things work out, then I can change my username to "benzoM3"

If something does pan out, I'll send you a PM or something.

Cheers!

Why would anyone wait and wonder if you'll 'find' the one that has what you want/desire in terms of colors and options, just go to the dealer and order exactly what you want and you'll have it in a few months...

I'm not all that fussy about the spec bar a couple key features, so of course I'd rather get something now. If I cannot get a decent deal on something available now, then of course just ordering one is the way to go

very hard to find one on the lot that isn't spec'd with every option and most likely priced very high...take the time and shop the dealers and get an allocation and configure one to your preference.

this is what most are doing which is the main reason why f80's on the lot are scarce as most are spoken for per say...

that being said....good luck with your search...

if you do end up getting an allocation..the current incentives will be locked in...on the westcoast you have a 90 day lock period for rates..so basically you can get the best rate in that period of ordering to delivery...just can't mix and match...it's either nov rates, dec rates or possibly jan rates...

Are any of these guys on the boards, or do you have contact info to share? I'm trying to get an allocation but my dealer may not be able to get me one soon.

I just got in contact with David, not a very good deal, im guessing because he said he is expecting only 1 more allocation for the year. Khoi and Joey Lee at Long Beach BMW are both giving good deals, but you will have to wait for allocation. Crevier had 2 allocations for M3's but are jacking up the MF and not willing to play ball. At the end of the day its supply and demand, so I understand the dealers to a certain extent. Deals are out there but you have to be patient. If you want more details feel free to PM me, and I can tell you who I ordered mine from.

OP, I know exactly which dealership you are talking about. If it helps, the deal I was able to negotiate on another vehicle they have with the same options different color, it was essentially $4100 off MSRP BEFORE $1500 in incentives. However, I was looking to finance and they were not offering the 1.9%/60 months on this deal and bumped up the rate to 2.9%. This comes out to an additional $2K over 60 months. So I guess you can say I was getting $2100 off MSRP before incentives, $3600 off MSRP after incentives. I ran from this dealer as the sales manager that handles the M cars was extremely shifty. He offered to pay off the 5 months remaining on my current lease, however when he drew up the deal he was using my own down payment to cover this. He made no mention of this, definitely caught them in a ton of lies. I was able to secure an ordered car at a significantly better price at another dealership.

An Update on developments...

Okay folks. Much learned during this process over the past few weeks. Some of this may seem obvious, but it was not to me when I started out...

1) Your location is key if you want to buy a car that’s in stock at a dealer. My local dealers (and theres 8+ of them) will only sell at MSRP or MSRP+.

2) I found 3 very helpful CA’s (with the help of fellow forum contributors) that all had unique, differentiated focus/capabilities. PM me if you want more details (California Region).

3) I’m now the proud owner of the exact car I wanted and have attached a photo. (2016 M3, Silverstone Exterior, Black Merino Extended Interior, M Handling, Drivelogic, 19” Chrome/Black Rims). Given my circumstances/needs, I picked it up for about $750 over invoice all said and done. Possible to have gotten it cheaper, but all depends on YOUR circumstances.

4) The lowest cost manner of getting into one of these cars is to go ED, without a doubt. A buddy of mine picked up a 2016 M4 recently via ED for below ED invoice...

Thanks for all the help guys...

mark deker, riverside bmw gave me a great deal on my M4! Way better than the prices you mentioned. He will also do european delivery. Most dealers do not even want to talk to you after you mention ED. Mark Deker is a good guy and will give you a great deal. Some of the other sales guys in here are pretending to give great deals, they are not.

That's great you got an amazing deal. Very happy for you. For the M4's I know the deals are more aggressive. Given my situation (which I won't go into), I'm pleased with the way things turned out.

It's always so discouraging to hear this. I placed a deposit with them several months ago and was one of the first on the allocation list for 2016 models. They would not sell me a car until next year for less than msrp. Oh well.

My experience with Steve Thomas was not great but at least they didn't waste my time. So I knew I had to go elsewhere.

Yep my deposit landed on April 13th. Called several times to check in and was told nothing over msrp, which is fine. The deal was that the lease on my other car was up in November so I didn't need the car until then. I called again as we were getting closer and was told I wouldn't get one under msrp until next year. I then had to scramble to find another dealer and allocation in order to get my car.
