how to fix sticky Auto H button? Help!

My son spilled some Lemonade on the console. The Auto H button now moves slowly (normal?).

I would rather not remove the carbon fiber piece, as I lost a clip when I switched from the plastic.

Can I use some sort of spray (contact cleaner, WD40, alcohol, etc.) ?

thanks!
Martin

mdallas , I would take it apart and clean it one by one.
To be safe, just bring it in to the dealer and tell them that you have a sticky button. They should be able to sort it out for you at no cost.

You can try using Contact Cleaner spray. IIRC, they clean circuit boards, etc. while being safe on plastics so you won't stain or melt anything.
This was MANY years ago (and I'm dating myself here!), but I used some of that stuff to resolve sticky buttons on my Alpine pull-out CD player after a roommate spilled Coke on it.
Google it and see what's available these days.

I´ve seen a guide on how to remove and replace this trim piece somewhere on the forum but I can´t seem to find it. Anyone? Thinking of replacing my own.

I paid the $400. Looks awesome!!! It kind of "completes" the interior vs the black plastic piece.

beware however, it was the 3rd one that the dealer got in for me. the first two had bad issues with the clear coat. inspect it well before the dealer or yourself does the install.

Not every dealer will charge this for no cost. If its caused by soda/lemonade they can bill you for teardown and replace/repair for this as the cause was not due to a product defect or manufacturer problem.

I guess you just have to know some people that know some people.

On taking it to the dealer, be warned. If they find food residue in the switch they will charge you to clean it.

I took my 2013 X5 in and they found something in the seat belt latch that they said was sticky like soda and told me there was a charge for it since they do not cover food in switches or latches.

I got out of it because I buy so often from them and this one was a used one I had bought. They know I do not mess up the interior of my auto's and believed me when I said it was like that when I bought it.
