So my parents went out and bought a new 2016 M sport X5 35i and have to say I am very impressed by this! It's our first BMW suv and it is just amazing so far. Coming from a sportline f30 335i, the M sport steering wheel feels and looks great! One thing that I did notice however is how great the engine sounds even though it's the same N55 (right?). Idk if the X5 has ASD but it sounds way better than my '12 335i!! Is it just because this is a brand new car or what?

I know exactly where you are coming from. It's the cold start sound that I love. The problem is that sound dissipates after a minute. So I am looking at the MPPK and if necessary put on the MPE to keep that sound consistent.

Well it's not really the exhaust although that sounds much better than the stock 335i exhaust. I feel like I can hear the engine much more crisper than that of my car. I've only gone up to 3.5K rpm so far and after driving my car there is a huge difference in the engine sound. I do have a meisterschaft exhaust on my 335i so maybe that's drowning out the engine sound.

LOL, OK, I guess I wasn't thinking about that. For me it's that exhaust sound when the flap is open I guess. Oh well, enjoy it.

I agree that the N55 in the X5 sounds a lot better than my 535 which had the same engine. For some reason it's just more audible in this SUV.

That is because the F15/F16 X5/X6 midpipe doesn't have any resonator or secondary muffler.
If you under the car, you can see that it is straight pipe from the downpipe to the muffler.

I hear a lot more engine sound from this N55 than my old 535xi with the same engine. I thought it was due to the MPPK which could actually increase the sounds some but seems like standard X5 35is have this awesome engine noise too.

Is the 'golf tee' mod possible on the F15 35i to keep both pipes open all the time? First thing I did on my gf's E82 135i.

Googled it and started reading but didn't read it through. I think in 2011 they changed something and doesn't give the same effect. Ah, I'm just going to do the MPPK and see where we go from there.

If you guys are really interested, find the ols thread. Someone figured out how to do it by replicating the M3 method.
I believe you drive in sport mode for 15 mins then check tailpipe to make sure flap is open, then unplug flap controller.

I stand on the front step and listen to the exhaust when my wife leaves... at least three times now. Such a beautiful sound!

I thought you just had to unplug the flap sensor at the rear of the exhaust?

With the new design, you have to open the flap first...then un-plug the connector. That's what I had to do on my buddy's new M4. Start engine, put in Sport mode, un-plug connector, turn off engine...done...flap remains open 24/7.
