Ambient Lighting Question

I have a question regarding the interior Ambient Lighting.
I know there several different combo that you can adjust with the 3 colors (White/Orange/Blue).

There is a strip of lights on the back of the front 2 seats,
when i adjust it for all orange its orange, all white its white
but when i adjust it for all blue, these 2 strips are white.

Are these suppose to be blue as well?

Thanks

I believe so.. they do not light up blue. Just like the two lights on the ceiling near the sunroof controls, they only light up orange or white.

That's normal. I noticed this when I first got my X5 and asked about during one of my service appointments. I was told that the thin stripe on the back of the seats does not change color with the rest of them. Maybe it's too thin to accommodate 3 different colors.

First thing I did was turn off the ambient lighting. How many of you guys are actually using it? To me, it seems a little tacky?

i thought it was kind of cool at fist, I especially like the blue but now I almost never notice it unless someone new gets in the car and comments on it.

However, I do have kids and they think it is the most important feature of the entire vehicle! On longer trips in the dark my wife and I handle many requests for color changes, and even some that cannot be handled, like "can you make it blink and change color automatically".

I've had the blue light on for the last year, and the year before that I preferred the orange. I like it a lot during the dark hours.

A slight variation of this topic ...... The strip that runs across the dash in front of the passenger seems to be slightly dimmer on mine and when I select all blue the dash piece almost looks a little grey ..... Anyone else see the same or is everything uniform ?

Cheers.

I thought the light strip on the dash and doors was cheesy at first but I grew to like it. I have always liked the orange/red ambient lights inside the BMW cabins... It is one of those BMW things

I have the same issue right now. It wasn't like this when I took delivery a couple weeks ago. I have an appointment booked for next week for them to check it out, I will let you know what they say.

I have also noticed that mine is more dim than the doors. Please report back and tell us if they actually do fix it! Thanks!

Update:

Dealership spent a couple hours running some tests. The shop foreman said the light bar is faulty and not the fiber-optic connection. They were able to diagnose the issue by going through the side dashboard panel. They ended up breaking a vent bracket by doing so though .

Solution: They have to order the part from Germany so 4-5 week wait time. Now the shocking news, in order to replace the light bar they have to take out the entire dashboard . Hopefully someone here has a better idea that I can suggest to the dealership as I don't really want them to take out the dashboard if possible.

I think you might have a faulty light as well so it might be time to visit the dealership

I think I would choose to just live with it rather than have the entire dash removed. That's just opening a can of worms that I'm not sure would be worth making a light work a little better that is kind of gimmicky to begin with. On one hand, it would kind of suck knowing that something should work a certain way and it doesn't. But if it never existed, the vehicle would still be essentially the same vehicle it is now. You can hold BMW accountable for poor quality control or poor workmanship or whatever, but you have to ask yourself if it's worth the aggravation on your part. Some would. I would probably just turn the trim lights down enough that it's not noticeable, or off, if necessary.
