Crazy Wobble - Blinking Traction Light - UPDATE

UPDATE: My local dealership was very kind to try and resolve the situation with me on this matter. They measured the rear conti's vs. the rear michelin's and determined the tire to be almost 10mm taller. CRAZY!

Anyway, they did an awesome thing for me and swapped out the conti's for new michelins (yes they do exist in this world), and the car is back to normal with little to no interference from traction control.

Moral of the story: I guess the width difference did not play nicely with the front michelins and caused the issue.

Special thanks for Matt and Jimmy at Field's BMW of Winterpark...awesome customer support!

Hey Guys and Girl -- I recently had to have the rear tires replaced by bmw and UNFORTUNATELY, I had to settle for the conti's due to the current tire debacle.

With that said, I have now noticed that going around some of the normal off and on ramps the car feels like it is wobbling all over the place and I get the blinking traction control light

Note:

-Not going fast in the turns by any means. Just normal cruising speed. In fact, I couldn't keep up with an expedition around one corner.

-The car is lowered on H&R's

-The car does have 15mm spacers all the way around.

I know this tire is not all that great but do you think there is something else that is going on here? Perhaps a spacer issue?

Check your lugs first. Be sure they are torqued down. If that's not it, go down the check list of mods.

Check lugs, spacers, make sure the tires are the same size (highly doubt they're different), and the tire pressure.

are your spacers hub centric? Do you have extended lugs? Is the spacer to rotor mounting surface free of rust / debris? Tighten lugs in a star shaped pattern?

I'd go through that checklist first

Yes, they are hubcentric.

Cold tire pressure is right at 32 all the way around.

I do have extended lugs as well.

I will have to pull the wheels off this weekend and have a look. I was told by the SA that the conti tire wall appeared to be a bit wider than the michelins and the tech told him that these tires would more than likely rub with the spacers that I have ugh.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Rubbing won't cause any wobbling though. Take off your spacers and see if you are still wobbling.. only way is process of elimination, then check your tires for balance, and then alignment again since you are lowered. What are your alignment specs? Are they even left to right?

Agreed. Rubbing won't cause the wobble.

Try it without the spacers though.

My car did what you're describing when I had my square setup mounted up and traction control on due to the tire sizes not being the correct height. It thought there was constant wheel spin so it was activating traction control.

I hear you. I just don't know how to keep MDM from intruding at this point. Car feels good with full DSC off. Wobbles/floats like crazy when any nannies are on.

The dealer replaced your rear tires with Conti's even though the fronts were the Michelins? I'd be very surprised if that was an authorized repair by BMW AG.

I had a screw in my back passenger tire and all they had available were the conti's at the very moment and with my e46 in the shop, I couldn't wait for the michelins to come off nationwide backorder. I needed a car.
