T-boned in Parking Lot

Unfortunately t-boned in parking lot at work. Damage to rear right passenger panel.

Does anyone have any experience with Excellence Auto Collision in Toronto? Seem pleasant and professional thus far; still waiting for a quote...

If they are an authorized BMW shop then you should be fine.
I went to European Autobody myself for outstanding work and service.

Friends,

Work was done after a month and in my haste when picking up the car i didn't notice the right rear wheel, which was replaced as part of the body work. It looks "different." Its been over a year and i can't recall but do the black 437M wheels look like this when new and "wear" over time? I noticed only today that it looks much more silver(though pretty sure these aren't the silver 437M's) than the right front (original). Car was washed/detailed by body shop so any brake dust/dirt, etc should have cleared from all wheels.

Any thoughts?

Apologies for the iphone/crappy pics.

It's not possible to match a color like oem cutting shape but I think it's very noticeable. You should contact them again.

Thanks. Don't think it's the lighting; spent some time looking at it from different angles.
Will stop by shop tomorrow and show them - just wanted some input in case it was something that would appear like the other wheels with time but seems unlikely.

There are two possibilities, the wheel was repaired and not refinished properly, or they gave you a new wheel but purchased the silver ones.

I know about the poor repair, because I curbed one of my wheels once, and trying to save money, I used a mobile repair service, they fixed the damage, but they couldn't match the colour properly. I ended having to spend more by taking it into a proper wheel shop suggested by my dealer, who explained that BMW uses a more advanced process and most low end repairers wouldn't take the time to repair it porperly. So I had to spend the extra dollars to get it done properly, so the colour matched.

For a while I rolled with wheels like yours, one bright and the other normal. It's not the lighting

Those aren't new wheels, just repaired. Matching the paint is almost impossible on these wheels so I would get it replaced.

This is terrible... Where did you go? would not happen at European Autobody. They make a color swash for me before even refinishing the wheel to make sure I am satisfied with the color.

Yeah pretty disappointed; should have looked at it more closely on pick up but was dark and glanced at it in isolation. Had it done at Excellence Auto which is usually good.

Point about repair versus replacement is a good one; was listed as a replacement on my invoice.

Waiting for the shop to call back.

Problem with your wheel is the factory clear coat over the brushed areas is tinted and not easy to match. Looks like your body shop just straight cleared it without tint.

Hey,

I contacted my repair guy, force4rmr is right, the BMW clearcoat is tinted, it took my proper wheel shop guys a few tries to get the wheels to match.

Thanks guys that's quite helpful. Will mention the tint issue when I'm able to get a hold of the body shop. Hopefully they'll make it right.

It sounds like they pocketed an extra G by not getting you a replacement. Shady if you ask me. If that's truly the case, you should report it to your insurance company. Such behavior needs maximum response, so that service providers never think of cheating a customer.

Redfox, yeah so I heard back from the shop. The interesting thing is the invoice line item said "remove/replace wheel" which is not the same as "repair" but the body shop claims my insurance company only approved a "repair." Anyway, after I showed them the marked difference in the wheels they have sent a request back to the insurance company to approve a proper wheel replacement. Appears the insurance company is seeing the same invoice i am but waiting to hear back.

Two issues here - one being the replace and repair terms seemingly used interchangeably and the other being that even if it is repaired some effort needs to go into the wheels appearing similar.

Lesson learned - I was a bit more removed than I should have been from this process as work was busy/was out of town etc. Will keep an eye on it more closely next time around (hopefully there is no next time).

What a pain in the ass for a parking lot fender bender...

^^ Hopefully they make this right.

I have not heard yet if any body shops/wheel repair shops have confirmed the proper tint amount for the clear. So far everyone has to replace any wheels that get damaged as repairs will not match at all.

Replace certainly has a very different definition from repair. How much cost did they attribute to the remove/replace? repainting a rim is $200 at the high end.
