Down to Two Colors II: Tanzanite Blue vs Silverstone
I liked the discussion on the previous posting. I'm in similar dilemma for pending M3 order. I've been leaning towards a TB/SS combination with silver 19's since seeing one in March, in fact have one awaiting allocation at this moment. I had a 2012 535 M-Sport with Carbon Black and liked it well. I prefer something closer to a medium blue this round which TB is closer but still rather dark. Lately SS/Black combination with black 19's has been rising in my from second place to tied for first. I think it looks outstanding in pictures plus I've seen one or two M4s in this combo. Obviously SS is easier to maintain. Both colors are reasonably unique and change color depending on light......which I prefer.

My vote is TB.
I was torn between Tanzanite Blue and Azurite Black. I chose AB. I'm a little biased. The majority of my cars have been black. I pay the price when it's parked in the sun, but I love the look of black cars. I think the M3/4 look best in White and Black. With that being said, the F80 series is so damn sexy. Color doesn't really matter |

I was in the same situation.
I like SS because it shows the lines very well, it's an M color, you got a good contrast to the carbon roof and it just looks very nice under certain light conditions. The negative side was that it sometimes looks just like another silver car and moreover not really mean to me. One more thing which I didn't like was the fact that it lacks contrast between the headlights and the exterior color (so you kinda "lose" the nice shape of the headlights). I've seen Tanzanite Blue only at the Autosalon in Geneva, it looked great under these light conditions. Since then I've been searching for pictures of cars in TB, which isn't that easy, especially if you want M3/4 pictures (and without the black wheels!), but I got a nice collection now. I had finally decided for TB and after more than 5 months of waiting I can pick it up next week, well I hope I'll like it. |

I was in the exact same dilemma...only just recently chose SS. For me will be a M3 in SS / SS with 18" wheels.
I am coming out of an E60 550i in Carbon Black. For me the deciding moment was the "struggle" to see TB look really good (need good sunlight) whereas the SS looks great 95% of the time (almost any lighting condition). Plus I am ready for a change to a lighter color car after living with dark for 7-8 years. The TB with silver 19" wheels over SS interior is awesome however. I realized I like the 18" wheels for ride quality, less damage prone and also looks. YMMV. |

SS for sure.
That would actually be my #1 choice, but my last 4 cars were silver. I want something different this time around. Right now, I have YMB, BSM and AW at the top of my short list. |

Had the same debate. Tanzanite was the winner for me.
I crush on the SS - looks super aggressive (especially with black wheels), shows lines, contrasts CF roof, etc. nearly perfect... BUT I love on a molecular level the Tanz. Maybe a tiny bit less attention grabby, such a fantastically complex colour (from brilliant blue to nearly black) - it's like a new car every time I walk up to it. Plus, I thought this: silver is the most or second most popular car colours. There are a billion silver cars. I know, SS is a particularly beautiful shade....but it is still a silver. Tanzanite/dark blues? They are rare. And why not go a little more rare with this car? And I went black wheels, not silver. No regrets about that. A nice 'black and blue' effect with CF roof, black grille surrounds, etc. ....I also purchased and plan to own this for 5+years. While my heart skips a beat when I see SS cars, I don't regret the choice I made for a second. Skipping a beat is nothing like the rush and butterflies in my tummy Lucy gives me.... Had I been leasing, I probably May have gone SS.....but not for the long haul. I guess what I'm saying is: SS would have been a fun girl to date, TB was the one to settle down with. |

I owned three silver cars for about 11 years and swore I would never buy another one again just because that's all I looked at. I would cringe when looking at it--nothing wrong with silver just got sick of it. But MAN is that silver an amazing color on that car. It almost doesn't even look silver in some light. Great color choice.

My vote went to SS. I thought about other (bolder) colors. But then I thought -- it's an M4, I can have any color and it sill looks jaw-dropping gorgeous With Silverstone however, I can be Classy, more like Bond driving a well-mannered Aston, until all hell breaks loose of course.
So ask yourself -- Vin Diesel (whatever his character's name is) or James Bond (or Ethan Hunt for that matter )?

I think the reason why SS is rare and hasn't sold as much is because on BMWUSA.COM, it looks like total crap in the build configurator.
In person, it's just beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Plus, people talk about AW going great with the CF roof, but SS goes just as good or even better. I think SS will become much more popular once people begin to see what it really looks like. |

If you want a light color car then SS, if you want a dark color car then TB! My vote is for SS since it's an M color and costs less!

Both colors have a lot of shades and change the look depending on the light conditions. As we already have a lot of pics of SSII, here are some of TB.
