Noise complaint: Sometimes it sounds like I'm in a submarine
Anyone else experience a steal haul, creaking metal noise when transitioning from reverse to drive in the mornings?
Every morning I back out of my garage, and when I turn my steering wheel to drive forward I hear a creaking metal noise. Almost like what you'd expect to hear in the haul of a ship or submarine. (Disclaimer: the only submarine I've been in is the one at Disneyland). |

In my experience...performance cars are characteristically noisy. Very communicative in nature. Stiff and emotional. That's the nature of the beast. You'll know the difference between a good and bad sound. Trust.

Same here. Only on first turn in the morning. Goes away right after that. Seems to happen if I have the wheels turned slightly as I go over the "Florida curb."

It's the door seals creaking against the black shadow line trim (rain gutters). If you push on the very top of the doors from the outside as if you were trying to push the door closed harder, you'll hear a similar sound.
There is a service bulletin for the F30 to apply some clear PTFE tape to the inside of the door jamb to reduce friction and eliminate the noise, and a thread somewhere on the F80 board about it. I have tried cleaning the rubber and paint in this area and applying various types of dressings, and none of it works, so I'm going to take my car in soon to have it addressed.
