Suggestions for opening hood?
Im trying to get my hood to open but today it just wants to be a bigger pain in my ass than usual. Ive struggled and gotten it opened but now when i try to reopen it will just unlatch a bit on the drivers side and none at the passenger side at all. Im at the point where the latch is seriously about to break off into my hand. Any work arounds if the latch inside the cabin isnt working?
What a piece of shit.

I know it's an obvious answer but why don't you take it into the dealer to have it repaired unless you need access today.....then I think you are SOL

After you pull the latch inside once, it will pop the hood a bit but not all the way. What you need to is pull upwards swiftly and forcefully with enough gusto to unlatch it. It's a bit tough at first but after you get it, it becomes easier. But no matter what, don't use something to use leverage and pry it open such as a crow-bar or tire iron. I did this once and slightly damaged the bumper.
I believe BMW did this on purpose as a safety measure so the hood doesn't fly open at the high speeds these cars are capable of. |

Pull the lever twice? I've never had a problem.

Haven't the cars always been limited to 155? I don't think it's a safety thing due to speed. It's just more universal. You pull the door handle twice to unlock then open the door. So now you pull the hood release twice as well.

I finally squeezed the lever to its breaking point and it clicked. Its annoying because it feels like the plastic handle will break before the hood latch releases.
EDIT: Of course I pulled the hood latch twice, I know how to open the hood, it just gets stuck way too often.

From what you mention it seems there is too much slack if you are almost at the lever breaking point. On mine engagement of the lever happens around 1/2 way. I would take it in to get looked at. |
