I think we should all wait for the next generation.
I don't know about you guys, but I am more a fan of handling than HP. Improved performance through lighter weight. So I'd hope we see more of that, rather than more weight, with more HP and bigger brakes to handle the weight. I feel like HP has gotten pretty crazy and apparently is only getting crazier.

Ok so for model year 2018 a new 3-series is going to come out and then be followed with a new m3/m4 in likely 2020/2021.
In the interim iterative revisions will be made - some loved, some not. Most of us with 2015 model M3s will have either moved on or have 75-100k miles on our vehicles by then. |

Don't really care, chasing hp is a never ending quest and most don't even use it. Honestly, I can barely manage this one so I'll focus on that. If it's hp that I want, the Hellcat is here, and don't say track blah blah blah....if we took a poll there would be a lower percentage of people crushing their Ms at apexes vs those who just enjoy it and have an occasional heavy foot around town or the highway.
I guess it's nice for those that just want to keep up with the Jones's. The iPhone 7 is right around the corner too, 30 inch screen.... |

It's crazy that they are already talking about the next gen car! I forget the f30 has been out since 2012 and we're already close to rolling out the 2016s. I remember watching the spy shots of the f30 like it was yesterday and pretty soon we'll be seeing G-series test mules. Time friggen flies!!

Well that seals it. I was going to wait for the 2016 LCI, but hearing this news its clear I will be waiting for the 2020 Gxx M3. You guys who are buying now are all suckers and I will be laughing to the finish line as I dust your impotent F80's. It's a good thing I have paid off my 1981 VW Rabbit and can use it until 2019.
In all seriousness, I can't worry about the next gen this soon. I do hope they put more thought into the interior design and material this time around. Last edited by OneRib; 02-27-2015 at 11:37 AM.. |

so eventually itll do 0-60 in under 3 seconds, while the supercars will be doing 0-60 in half a second or a blink of an eye. they keep increasing hp with every generation eventually we will see 1000hp m3s and 500hp honda accords

Early calendar year 2019 will be when you can buy the Gxx 3-series, so we,ve got a solid 4 years left. When the ///M variants come out, no one knows. But at least 5 years from today.

Longer wheelbase, wider track, lower CG (which is good) and 500 hp? It's an e60 M5!

So, if they want the M3 and M4 to launch at the same time, it's going to be 2021.
However, if they are willing to let the M3 lead the M4 debut (like the M5 precedes the M6) we might see the next M3 in - and you have to say this in Cheri Oteri's Barbara Walters voice - 2020. Could even be MY2020. F30 debuted as MY2012 but it was in very early 2012. Meanwhile, MY2011 E90s were built and sold right up until the end of 2012 calendar year. But that was an exceptional situation. Usually they end the previous model year by September or earlier, and start a new one (a short one, often times) for the last model year of the 3 Series. Then they launch the new car early in the next year with the model year one ahead of that calendar year. I think there's a decent chance we'll see them go back to that type of schedule. I.e. winter 2019 as MY2020. |
