More results from our shop M3 with JB4 and catless downpipes

https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.n...e331f8da8457da

2014 BMW F80 M3 on the dyno for stage2 testing. Car has decat downpipes, stock secondary cats and stock exhaust. (this is map2 and numbers are corrected flywheel estimates, WHP are in text at bottom left of graph)

Stock power: 425bhp
Tuned power: 497bhp
Gain: 72bhp

Stock torque: 438 ftlb
Tuned torque: 538
Gain: 100 ftlb

I know USA dynos are reading 1 bazzilion WHP, but here in Europe our numbers are far more realistic.

I think it depends more on the dyno than the country.

Dynojets all over put them over 400. If i go to the "heartbreaker" Mustang dyno in town i would probably lose 25+ rwhp. But at the same time my FBO e92 made 371 on the Dynojet but would probably only make 340 or less on the Mustang.

Not many will choose to publish #s from the lower dynos. Here are results from an F80 on our local Mustang dyno. 366/368.

That baseline is in line with what we see here on a dynojet.

His in bhp, yours is whp.
People over here think american dynos read high as well as it's usually a dynojet.
Dyno dynamics are more popular here.

I think it's widely understood that dynojets read high, however, over time they've become the defacto standard for comparing numbers online.

Curious why everyone always uses STD. Isn't SAE a more accurate read?

I have a hard time believing this motor puts down 427hp at the wheels... of course I'd like it to though.

Good catch I missed that.

Ya so I guess the dynojet numbers are a little higher (10%) or so. Makes us feel better

The reality is any dyno is only really useful to show deltas, so you need a baseline and then a pull with whatever you have done. The delta is what is important.

The BMW crowd here on e90 is just used to see dynojet graphs so that makes it easier to compare between cars, even though each dynojet will read a little different. The comparison is much easier, then lets say comparing a dynojet with a mustang dyno.

Rookies always talk about dynos which read "high" or "low."

Quite funny hearing people squabble over what means what on a different kind of dyno when a single outright number never means anything. It's even funnier when they then take those numbers and claim BHP figures off them as done above...
