Fishing for thoughts - Color choice #1 is a no-go

Ok, so I specced my car out with an individual paint color (non-P1). Color wasn't rejected, per se, but cannot be completed within the ED delivery window I need. I have been presented some alternate options by BMW, but picked the one I requested for a reason. I'm having trouble paying the same $$ for a color that isn't my #1 choice. So, Here's the choices:

(A) Order car in a standard metallic color. Strip some options to lower MSRP (And therefore lower % lost at resale) - such as LED, Full Leather, & 19" wheels - possibly go 6MT also. Now the plan would be to wait 24-30 months, then begin the process of ordering the car in the #1 choice color - this time without time constraints - and sell my car prior to ED delivery, likely in 2017. An added benefit is that I could decide to change to a different car altogether in this scenario. Car would be either Mineral Grey or Sahkir Orange. Also, another trip to Europe would be a positive and negative ($$ is negative, experience is positive)

or

(B) Order another non-P1 color, keeping all options as-is. In this scenario I would be keeping the car at least 5-6 years.

Just lease a stripper, then get what you want when the lease is over. If you buy something you don't really want, it will be impossible to get the same level of enjoyment/satisfaction from it. Another plus, is that LCI/Comp package should be out by then.

order a car now and spec it with leather seats, carbon roof, m-suspension, and a MANUAL! I have a feeling manuals are going to have a higher resale value than automatics due to the over abundance of people order autos currently, this way you get into a car now, enjoy it, and take a run at your individual color later.

curious what the orginal specced color was? i assume some other blue based on the offer from BMW. Personally I find it rather nuts to pay extra for a different shade of a color, but it's not my money so thats your decision. If it was my purchase and I knew the color was my one non negotiable then I'd just push it out to a later date. I don't like spending money on something unless it's exactly what I want.

Took some artistic liberty with your quote. Interlagos Blue.

Stripper lease now and redo in 2-3 years.
Anyone who goes as far as 5k for individual paint will not be happy with anything else, when the only reason you didn't get it was time constraints.

Agree completely.. I would rather not even buy the car, and just buy a beater, until the Individual color (and Individual options) I want are ready/available.

That's precisely what I am doing. Another option, if you don't need a beater (although you could sell this when your Individual is ready with minimal to no loss in value) is to look into a longer term car rental/short term lease on a POS crown vic or some other garbage the rental car companies have.

I was in a similar position. Luckily I was in a position to shift my trip to Europe.

I would not order except less than what I wanted on my M4 order.

If I just needed a set of wheels I would probably order something different/less expensive on a short term lease until I could get the planets aligned correctly.
