Have MPE Exhaust + Dinan, worth getting Downpipes?

I have installed an MPE Exhaust and Dinan Stage 1 tune on my M3. Is it worth getting catless downpipes for performance upgrade? I am not interested in getting the exhaust much louder, would downpipes be much louder? I see on some Dyno posts a 20hp increase while other posts saying they lost hp after installing downpipes.

I'm thinking that the Dinan piggy back can't eliminate the cel that will come from careless downpipes

DPs will add substantial volume to your overall exhaust note yes.. It will sound good but def will be a lot louder.

Hey OP would you mind uploading a video of your car with you setup with some revs? Would like to hear how it sounds. Or if you have a YouTube link, would you mind sharing with us? Thanks

Since your stated goal is more power and not necessarily more exhaust volume, I would say your money is better spent on upgrading to the Dinan Stage 2 ($250) and BMS or Injen intake ($450 - $600). Same or better horsepower increase, no CEL issues, minimal installation costs (reprogramming at dealer for Dinan; do-it-yourself on intake) versus installing downpipes at a performance shop, and increased intake/spool noises plus some under-hood bling if you're into that.

Just my $0.02....

I'll give you my quick answer...

For sound alone, no... But as I understand it, you get another 20+ HP from the DP's.

I was reluctant to get them, but just ordered the ER Catless set last week.

I really think in all reality, it's the best way to get the most power out of your S55 car.... Tune + DP's.

i always wanted Down pipes for my n54's ex335i and current 1m but i dont know why i didnt get them, now i have s55 m3 but in my opinion the car sounds bad and the downpipes will make it even worse + the installation of the s55 downpipes is much harder than the n54

if i was you i will get an intake instead of that

It is a matter of opinion of course, but I disagree. I think the S55 sounds heaps better with downpipes, especially with the stock exhaust and open valves. My opinion, obviously. Downpipes are a must in my book.

Yeah, I also think turning off Actice Sound is a must as well. In person, careless downpipes sound much better than over the Internet. It is hard to compare unless you're hearing it in the flesh.

I'd love to hear them in person before making the leap. On videos, I do not like the tone very much, but want the performance gains, so hopefully, in person is the ticket to better sound.

Honestly this is confusing. You bought the MPE which keeps the lower cats, keeps the factory warranty etc. If you wanted more power you would have gotten the akrapovic full exhaust.

You got the Dinan which is the route many people go to stay within good limitations and you have the Dinan warranty.

But then you want catless DPs. Dinan's warranty is probably toast (for related items) and of course BMW.

You also don't want louder, catless DPs are definitely louder, especially loud on startup. If I were to startup my car, and stand behind it I would have to raise my voice to have a conversation with someone next to me. It calms down after 2 minutes. On a street in ass-hat mode, accelerating in 2nd at 5k+ rpm echo's off buildings. you can hear me coming for blocks and blocks in the city.

If you want power, get akra full exhaust (or similar non-cat), catless dp's and JB4.

if you want quieter and more warranty friendly, upgrade the dinan to a higher stage.

You will have a "Check engine light" with the downpipes and will have to purchase a Macht Schnell module (or similar component) to eliminate that. Dinan does not have software for catless downpipes for the S55
Your exhaust will be louder with valves open and during acceleration. Otherwise, the exhaust will still be pretty tame with valves closed.
I have this same setup on 2 clients M4's.

Car will be louder ( but sounds much better), and quicker. So yes in my opinion it is worth it
