Clutch type LSD for the 135i DCT?
Hi guys,
im currently in the market for a LSD for my 135i DCT but seems there arent any options for the CLUTCH TYPE lsd. i am interested in the 1.5way LSD and not the helical quaife\wavetrack\mfactory lsd. Been eyeing the Kaaz and OSG but to no avail. are we realy stuck with the helical lsd options?

dont the drexler units go for something like 5k$? thats a little steep.
i would love to have one, but cant afford that. i was looking at something like 1500-2500$. seems other than them no one makes a cluth type diff for the DCT. that is kind of odd to see since our bimmers are THE cars for this clutch type application and not needing a helical diff like most FWD cars. hosently having a torsen diff just to say "i got an lsd" is not the way to go here.

You're underestimating how well a Helical LSD functions, compared to an open diff.
Infact, on a street car, the Helical LSD is preferred (and more advantageous) than a Plate LSD. |

MFactory Hi
i am not underestimating the advantages of the Helical LSD but after having taking a spin in a good calibrated 1.5 way LSD i feel that it realy suits me more thank to its more drifting attitude. if not that, i would be all over the Helical LSD.

I think it was more to do with the way you worded your statement
If you've been out in a Plate type LSD and find it suits your driving style better, then that is what you should probably get. However, as you already know, there are not too many DCT fitments available at the moment unfortunately |

sorry if my wording was out of context
i think that our bimmers deserve to have clutch type LSDs, not only for how they act, but its the heritage balls out sideways in any situation. i guess the only current option is a 5k$ drexler unit. need to get them by email. MFactory, what is the locking characteristic for a Helical LSD? when power sliding or drifing, wont the power keep transferring between wheels all the time?

so.. had a chat with Drexler, no 2.56 final drive ratio for the DCT guys,
only 3.15 i guess that is out of the equation

They would be same as our current AT fitment Plate LSD's, so 20 plates (10 each side), allowing you to change lock capacity from 20-100%, changeable engagement angles and pre-load.

You can see the Plate LSD's on our website, however, that info is outdated as it was based on our old Honda fitments.
We're redoing our website just now, and will be updating all the product info and lists. |

@MFactory i noticed the change you made to the MFactory website,
looks good! i noticed that there is a 2.56 helical LSD already instock for the DCT model 135i but it says mainland US only, what does that mean? does this also mean that a plate type fitment would come very soon?

We have the LSD unit available, but our new ring & pinion is still being tested, so are limited to just doing machine work on the oem ring gear at the moment. The website is listing fully rebuilt cores, which we can't ship international.
Regarding the plate type LSD, yes, this is something we are working on. Thanks! |

If you're interested in a plate LSD go to Performance Gearing or Diffsonline and you can get one now. No need to wait.
http://performancegearing.com The site is being updated but Jim builds BMW diffs to spec and really knows his stuff. I have one of his diffs in my e90. http://diffsonline.com/bmw-e8x-135-7...l#.VKQqFlpwSM4 |

HeelToe,
thank you for the info, as for diffsonline, i would think that MFactory could give us some more competitive offering, and about Performance Gearing, well, i hope they updates their website soon
