Vanos recall.. Remove mods?

My sa set up an appt for my Vanos recall this coming Monday. My question is, should I remove my jb4, ff wires, uninstall cobb, and remove wiring for my meth kit so they dont mess it up? My car is out of warranty I'm not worried about them seeing this stuff, but I am worried they won't install it back correctly. I am not sure how deep in they need to go to check my Vanos bolts or what all they need to remove so any info would be great to help me decide what to do.

Sounds like you'd feel more comfortable with the mods removed. I would remove just to take the chance of them accidentally messing something up out of the equation.

You can leave the mods in. Regardless of mods its a legal requirement to perform the recall.

I left mine in

I'll call my sa and see how Much stuff is being removed on top of the motor and make a decision then. I think I'll just take out the jb4 with ff wires and meth wiring so they can't screw it up. That's not too hard.

I left all my mods on including the Cobb tune, but I dont have a meth system. That is probably the only thing I'd remove if I were you.

It is a recall and they are require to do it, BUT the tech or dealership could tell you they do not want the responsibility of "reinstalling" non BMW parts. Now the recall is actually very simple and to be honest I dont think they even need to remove the CP.

Take the meth out and leave the rest

It's a safety recall. They are mandated by the government to do it.

The Vanos unit on the front of the camshafts has to be exposed and then the covers taken off to get to the four bolts on each. Anything that isn't stock that is in their way may not be put back properly, since they may not know exactly how it should go back on?

I removed my meth solenoid and that was all. I showed my sa the jb4 and said please install back the way it is now. Everything looks right for now. The only thing I can't see is the ff wires. I'll check a few log and make sure afrs are in line before tearing the car apart.

They just need to remove the valve cover. So if you have an intake it will be removed, no biggie, and if you have a jb4, theyll notice it probably but it won't affect removing the valve cover. Save the time and just leave everything on. Besides the tech will what the hours anyway instead of postponing it because of a few mods, a few mods that wouldnt even affect the process of removing the valve cover.

Would they have to remove the air duct (inlet to the turbo - see #1 in this diagram) that the OCC return line dumps into? That the only place I think my mods might impact their work.

Cheers,
Bryan

I had mine done without removing fmic and charge pipe, but I always uninstall the Cobb tune as a courtesy.

Just had this done a couple of months ago and posted a similar thread. I ended-up leaving everything on (JB4 and meth). There were no issues, just a note in the service report mentioning that the JB was there and that the MAF was unplugged (which they didn't try to "correct"). I don't think they touched any of the tune or meth wiring to get the VANOS done, so for anyone worried about this I wouldn't sweat it. Assuming you're out of warranty of course.

I had mine done and left all mods in. Like Jim said, I just switched to map 0 and let them have it.
