7k miles and running hot
Gents,
I have only 7K on my CPO'ed M3. It a stripper with test pipes and bolt on mods and ECU tune(dinan), This is my 3rd E92 M3, none of the others ever ran hot. But this one when I run up to 8k RPM's get warm immediately. The temp gauge jumps up a tick from the normal around 210 to maybe 230 from just a quick run up on the feeder. Should I be concerned? Thanks for your thoughts and advice. |

You bought her used right? Maybe previous owner had a pulley installed and dealer overlooked it. I would consider it normal if it has a pulley and you're redlining her.

good point, I have dinan pulleys ready for install actually. I had the same thought. Again it's weird, my previous M3 had pulleys and no increase in temp.
I'll do oil change and get cooling system. I'm a life long BMW customer with 12 cars bought. I'm confident they will address this. |

Mine does this too. Second M3 and stock. Comes back down to 210 pretty quickly. From the research I did, it didn't seem to happen to every car, but it happened to enough cars not to worry.

I experience this as well. I thought my issue may be because the AA SC intercooler requires moving the oil cooler lower to make room. Possibly reducing air flow thru the oil cooler. I think they have redesign the Intercooler on their newer kit. Now they are wider, and not at tall.
Temps do come back down soon enough though.

I have a pulley and I don't see my temperatures spike and decline as stated. I can get some higher (but still with-in normal operating range) when I run it hard for an extended period of time, and it needs to be fairly warm out...

Oh Jeez, relevant point. I will definitely do this thru dealer operations so I have history on this issue with BMW actual. Thank you. I'll have them note on service my concern about this may be bearing issue for the future.

Bearings would be a very unlikely cause of the phenomenon you are seeing....there is some other problem, a sticking oil cooler thermostat or something like that.

A lot of bad advice on here. If you are at 230 on spirited driving, then you are fine. Go check your owners manual and see what it says for normal operating temperatures (hint: you're within specs). Read other posts on this issue and you'll find many have the same phenomenon and have since day 1.

I've been running my Dinan pulley for over 40k miles and many track days. I've never seen a spike like you're describing. Make sure the oil cooler is clean and not blocked by plastic or paper.........Phil
