Oiled filters on the f80?
I know the generic answer to this both sides. Don't do it because it wrecks the MAF. Do it because if oiled correctly the MAF is fine. I had bmc filter on my old 3 series. My e92 m3 had no mAF so was not a problem. However I read on the M5 board that several people had a finicky MAF and had problems with using bmc filters. I am one who more wants to squeeze all the sound I can get out of the engine. I don't expect big power, however with catless downpipes and a tune I don't think it can hurt. Any preliminary thoughts on how sensitive the MAF's are?

Had the K&Ns on for almost 2k trouble free so far. Had them on my f10 n55 w/o any issues for well over 15k also. So idk if the people who had problems was just a coincident or other underlying issues.

Here's the K&N procedures for cleaning/reoiling, these can be applied to any cotton-gauze filter. For the record, I would never expect anyone's filter being this dirty as the one in the video. About 1:10 into the video shows the oiling process. Filters so not need to be washed/oiled every time, we typically remove them and shake out the dirt and inspect at every engine oil change, while washing/reoil every other engine oil change. Most cotton-gauze filters turn white when cleaned, only enough oil is needed to turn back to original color.

These were guys on the f10 m5 forum with brand new BMC filters causing problems. They had not oiled them. They were right out of the box which was why I was concerned. I, like you said, was never concerned since I always used a new filter and never oiled myself but this has been hesitant with the m5 guys having multiple problems
