M3 F80 vs E63 Biturbo

F80 M3 vs E63 Biturbo w/ perf. pacakge

Looks like the E63 gets a half car jump, but doesn't matter. E63 pulls hard and passenger ends up shooting M3 out rear glass.

Same M3 that ran the R8 V8.

I get it. The jump didn't help the M3 either. No denying that MB is fast.

PP is 577HP and 590lb-ft, so 152 more HP and 184lb-ft more torque coming from a FI 5.5 liter V8...it's a monster, F80 did fine.

Motortrend, fwiw--

Quote:
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG S Model is a monster. Under the bulging hood sits a nicely juiced-up version of the now-familiar M157 AMG engine. It's 5.5 liters in displacement, has two turbochargers fitted directly to the exhaust headers, and fills the combustion chamber with direct-injected gasoline at 2000 psi.

Such a motor, especially in the new S Model tune, creates 577 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Of course those power numbers are GMFN, or German Minimum Fantasy Numbers. Meaning that we stuck this particular gray example on K&N Engineering's dynamometer and discovered that the M157 in this car churns out 541 wheel-horsepower and 508 lb-ft of torque.

As the S Model E63 is AWD, and since you typically factor in a drivetrain loss for AWD cars of 20 percent (the transmission and drive shafts tend to suck a lot of power), the actual crank numbers on this car are much closer to 676 hp and 636 lb-ft of torque. That's enough to propel the 4511-pound sedan to 60 mph in a crazy quick 3.4 seconds and through the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds at 121.8 mph. That's one big hammer.

+1 on the weight comment. I drove an E63 S wagon and it is indeed a monster. Given the F80s strength from a roll I thought it would be a little closer but not bad given the power difference and poor start.

It's 100,000 for AWD s version. I couldn't stomach it. It would have been great car but it was an AWD sedan with no clutch. That was good for wife and kids. But my M4 is for me. Two doors, manual tranny

How is this an apples to apples comparison? Should've been an M5 there.

Regardless, I'm happy with how the M3 did. And that too in sock form!

I'm sure after a decent tune, the M3 would become a tough beast to beat.

The M did quite well in stock form, but it really isn't any competition to the E63, that car is just in a different league. If you were tune both the E63 and the M3, the outcome would be similar.

Those Tuned 5.5 TT's are making north of 700 LBS ft TQ and 700 HP. You just cant overcome that kind of power.
