135i Auto tranny shifting on its own

Hey guys so ive had the car for about 3 months now, bought it used with 9k miles and I love it but I keep having this issue with the tranny shifting on its own sometimes when I go WOT. Yes I throw it in sport mode or so thats what i think its called (when you go left on the shifter) and yes I take off traction control. For example if I do a WOT pull from second gear, using the paddles, to shift from 2nd to 3rd, 3rd to 4th or 4th to 5th it will shift without me even touching the paddles at all, before I even get to redline so I dont know if its sometihing to do with the ECU, I have a JB4 BTW, and spare me the I should of gotten a manuel tranny, I wanted auto, thanks guys!

Do you see the gear indicator in your gauge cluster?
Does it say S1 or M1? (1 being the current gear you are in)

Isn't s1 when you put it in steptronic mode by going left on the shifter and m1 when your just in D (drive)?

I have the auto tranny and mine is '08 so I don't have the paddles and DCT tranny BUT I got the Alpina B3 transmission flash and when I go left (manual shift mode) it indicates "M1,2,3...ect" that's what they're referring to. And in normal drive D1.2..3.. And S1...2...3 in sport. Anyways, the transmission with the flash does down shift on its own if I don't from 3rd to 2nd but it does allow me to redline and I've never really messed with it to allow it to go so far into redline to know if it's self shift but when I get the chance I'll update.

Hmm i believe mine doesnt show s1 only d1 and m1, ill have to check that out. However I wouldnt have an issue if it shifted on its own if i got close to redline the issue is that sometimes it shifts before i even come close to redline, so i end up losing its done it quite a few times

I maybe incorrect but when you move the shifter to the left you are in one of the sport mode selections the other being the sport button. I would say with that selection the trans will shift by itself and you can also use the paddles but the trans is in an auto mode. To go all the way to manual you move the elector to the left and then up.

There is no issue. The car will autoshift in manual mode if you rev it out.

Also, the tach is slow.

There's a sport button? I'm still learning this car lol so go left then up on the shifter? Won't that just shift up?

The thing is I'm no where near redline, or are you saying the tach isn't keeping up with the revs?

I think the car's electronics can decide depending on conditions at what RPM to shift at, no matter whether its near the redline or not. I wonder if using the stock maps selected by the JB4 would avoid this issue.

Sport button is just below the shifter. Moving the shift lever to the left put it is one type of sport mode and then up to go Manual. While in Manual moving the lever up downshifts and moving the lever back upshifts.

Do a search and you should be able to find an instruction manual for your vehicle.

This makes a lot of sense maybe it's a safety feature the protect the transmission from going boom lol and I do use the jb4 maps still does it, some say the aplina flash might help but if it's a safety feature I have no complaints

Hmm I have to look into this, I've only had the car for a while so still learning all the gadgets, I always thought sport mode was just going left on the shifter, but thanks ill do some searching!

I have had the same thing on 1st to 2nd after installing JB4 on WOT. I think it's just to to protect the tranny from the obscure amount of torque.
