MasterC17 - 2015 F80 M3 Street/Track Build

After months of anticipation and waiting, I have finally received my new F80 M3. Alpine White/Sakhir Orange w/ CF Trim, Executive Package, DCT, M-Adapative, Full Leather, 19" Black Wheels, Power Rear Sunshade, and Harman/Kardon. If you've seen my previous builds, you know I like to track my cars. I'm not going to go nuts on this one by any means (like the E46), but it is certainly going to see track time and mods. I already got a few goodies to put on the car and will keep this as my Journal. Haven't received the plates yet, car came in yesterday, should be driving it today. And some intro photo's!

Thanks everyone!

Impressions after 200 miles.

Engine: It feels great! I obviously can't explore its full potential (damn break-in), but it's torquey and strong! Smooth, makes hilariously funny noises, gas mileage is respectable (especially compared to prior M motors), I really don't have a single complaint. I've always been a fan of the nice, linear, high revving M motors (S54, S65, S85), but this truly is a gem, and I would take it over the S65 any day. Yes, I said it. Any day.

Suspension: But forget the motor, where this car truly shines for me is the suspension and the handling. I never thought it possible that a car that rides so smooth and comfortably could handle so well. It feels like it's on rails - out of the box. Quite a treat and a fun experience to drive this near the limit.

Electronics: I've only ever owned BMW's (save one Mercedes 190E), and of course this has all the gadgets and goodies I could have ever wanted (except LED headlights, regret not getting those). Head's up display is cool, albeit not very useful. I LOVE comfort access (both E60's and the E70 have it) but have no idea why they didn't put CA handles on the rear doors. I mean, the car is jam-packed with fun options. Who can complain?

Brakes: Finally! An M car with consistent brakes that feel great and stop on a dime! Mind you, I never thought M cars had BAD brakes, but this takes it to a whole new level. Slap a set of track pads on there with stainless lines and fluid, and this will stop as well as anything. Thank you BMW!

Exterior: The car is beautiful. I absolutely love the huge rear arches. I think BMW killed it with the exterior design here, gorgeous from every angle. And finally the sedan gets a proper carbon roof. Score one again!

Interior: So glad I went with the full leather, interior looks great. Definitely sets itself apart from a normal F30.

Overall: I think BMW has developed a hugely capable car here. Yes, the Corvette might be faster, but BMW designs a car to be a great balance of everything, and they nailed it. For the money, there is nothing else I would rather buy. It's fast, it handles great, it's comfortable, it's quiet when I want it, it screams when I don't. It has all the little options I could ever want or need. It looks gorgeous inside and out. What's not to like? I love the car. Absolutely love it.

And now for the bad news. I got a ticket at 207 miles . I told the officer I had only had it two days. He did not care. Oh well, lesson learned - don't drive without a radar detector (I forgot to grab it before I went out, ooooops.) Still in love!

Thanks! E46 was fun, but need to move onto something more practical.

ER Downpipes, JB4, Painted Reflectors, Gloss Black Front + Side Grills going on this weekend. 1,200 mile service on friday.

beautiful car and nice review! i can't wait to get mine.. should be about a week or two! black leather for me but otherwise about the same. are you going to do a new spoiler/lip or rear diffuser? i'm seeing a lot of guys going carbon fiber (…reinforced plastic) on the rear end but since the kidneys & side grills are gloss black i'm wondering if the rear end should match that .. or the roof?

definitely gonna be watching your build … are you planning on tracking it pretty heavily?

Thanks! Yes I am planning on running the M performance diffuser and rear spoiler, but I do not like the front splitter. I may end up getting the Vorsteiner front lip, but $$$. The car will see plenty of track time

Nice car. Classic color combo. Your pictures justified the money I spent on Full SO. Now I just need my car!!

On a joking side note. There must have been a cargo ship carrying only White M3/M4 that recently landed lol.

Thanks everyone! Let the modding begin! Installed the JB4 last night on MAP 7 with an E30 mix (although I mixed it low, it's probably more like E20 right now and seem's to break up at higher RPM). Impressions? Fast, really fast. Stupid fast haha. Torque in incredible. Car will be dyno'd on Sunday w/ downpipes, JB4 on MAP 7 w/ E40 mix and charcoal filter delete. Hoping for 550whp/600wtq.

Downpipes were installed on Saturday (sounds much better now), had the car Dyno'd on Sunday on a Mustang Dyno. Unfortunately, one of the EWG connectors on the JB4 is bad, so we had to back the JB4 down to Stage 2. Also, even with an E30 mix, couldn't get MAP 7 to run reliably, it kept cutting out and misfiring under heavy load, so we ran MAP 2 on FW 3.3.3. Results? 436whp and 467wtq. The dyno operator told me in his experience a DynoJet will produce 13% more power on the same car. So compare that to EAS's M4 on MAP 3 (477whp/514wtq) and it would result in pretty similar figures (492whp/527wtq). Overall, I'm happy with the power, but I want more, and there's definitely more left on the table. Hit 28.4lbs of boost on MAP 7, hitting around 24lbs on MAP 2. Fix the EWG connector, run race fuel, and we should see much higher numbers. Also looking into other areas to extract power from....

Here's the chart:

F80 M3 - JB4 MAP2 Stage 2 FW 3.3.3, ER Catless Downpipes, Charcoal Filter Delete

And video of Dyno/driving around:
