Best place to source fluids???

Hi all,

I'm coming up on an oil change, and I'd also like to have the transmission fluid changed, as well as the differential fluid. Can anyone tell me where I can source these fluids at the best prices?

10w60 Castrol x9
Gear oil say-xj-fm x3
Mtf-lt2 x1 (5L)

Thanks!

5 quart jug of Mobil 1 0W40 from Walmart for $25 and 4 quarts of Mobil 1 15W50 on sale at your local auto parts store.

Cheapest I've found is Turner motorsports.
Still cheaper than the dealership even with shipping.

Thank you. In the past I've found it that Turner is always pricier than anyone else on the market. This has held true for everything I've ever wanted to purchase.

I was considering Tischer but they are a hit or miss and every single time I've attempted doing business with them, they always throw a curve ball my way (such as attempting to charge $12 shipping on a $5 weightless part, charging more for a part that they advertised for less in the past, not wanting to compete with other dealers' pricing, etc).

I'll check out ECS and Turner again...maybe they are better about fluids.

Folks are giving you solid advice, especially when it comes to engine oil. You need to reconsider that fluid weight. www.rmeuropean.com is a great source for fluids.

Care to elaborate? BMW M engineers designed/built this engine and understand the tolerances better than anyone else, and as such, they've made a recommendation. Just curious as to why anyone would want to deviate from that? We are not talking about Camry's here, these cars undergo full R&D from the start.

Thank you for the link, I'll check them out!

Yes, be leery of people just telling you to switch oils. IMO I use 10 60.

Yes, I'm only looking for oem-recommended products. The original post contains the information of what I'm looking for.

Most people are unaware of this, but Castrol 10w60 is a phenomenal oil...it's what Audi runs on their R8 GT's at the track.

Etien, tischer (getbmwparts) has a deal for the oil change kit with free shipping. I order everything from them.

you kidding? It's now common knowledge on the boards that 10W60 shows an excess amount of lead in used oil analysis, indicating abnormal bearing wear. The numbers are dramatically lowered when folks switch to 0W40. Not many people still hold your point of view. Remember these are the same engineers that think their automotive fluids are "lifetime", and are thus maintenance free. Looks like you're willing to deviate from their protocol on that one, hence the reasoning behind your thread.

No. One must draw a line between engineering and marketing. The "lifetime" label is not placed on fluids by the M engineers; this is done by dealers to save money, when offering you a "free maintenance plan" throughout the lifetime of the manufacturer's warranty. An example of this is that BMW used to recommend oil changes every 7500 miles prior to the "free" plans, and back then they had much more strict maintenance services (the inspection system, etc). Inclusive plans came along, and all of a sudden oil should now be changed every 15000 miles - any person familiar with the way a conventional combustion engine works knows that intervals that long are unsafe, no matter what level of synthetic the oil may be. On the same token, other fluids that are not subjected to as much abuse may not need to be changed that regularly, but the interval should definitely not be "never/lifetime." This is what I'm basing my logic on. But to say that I know better than those who engineered my car and condemn the products that they recommend for my car would be quite a stretch. As I mentioned previously, BMW are not the only ones using this engine oil on their refined engines.

I'm not trying to argue or to convince anyone of my view on the subject. I simply created the thread to know where I can find the recommended products at the best price.
