N54 plugs on N55 PPk1?

So.. I took my car into the dealer today, having them install PPK1 and my car was a VANOS recall so they're fixing that.. SINCE they were there I figured 30k, let's change the plugs..

I give the SA the specific oem plug for the n55.. he then calls me and says the tech installed the n54 plugs 12120037244 on my car because it is suppose to 'run' better with the PPK1?

WTF? should I demand install of the correct plugs or let it ride? i have yet to see this..

When I replaced my N55 plugs the first time I didn't research enough before I installed the n54 plugs. They are completely different plugs and didn't really run right. Switched to NGK's and it ran a lot better.

Yup, that is what I would do! Demand that the correct N55 plugs are installed. Unless your dealer can show you something in writing like a TSB or SIB, on this... I would demand the N55 plugs be installed.

The only thing special about PPK car is that the spark plugs should be changed more often. Just like with the 1M or on any "tuned" 135i... new plugs every ~30K miles.

The dealership is correct. Apparently, the PPK1 doesn't come with the N54 spark plugs. My PPK2 kit did come with the N54 plugs. I had this discussion with the service advisor when I said I would like to keep the plugs which came with the kit unused for a future service interval. He checked with the mechanic and he said the plugs included with the PPK2 are supposed to be used in place of the stock N55 plugs per BMW.

I uploaded the parts list I scanned in which was included with the PPK2 in my post here with pictures of all the PPK2 parts. Hopefully I can re-link to the attachment. The first line item in the parts lists shows the N54 spark plugs.

Interesting, Im up for new plugs in 3k. Ive got the n55. Any tips of which plugs I should get? I have PPK1. Benefit of going with n54 plugs is they are cheaper.

I'm really not sure why BMW didn't include the N54 plugs with the PPK1. I'm wondering if the N54 plugs were included with the PPK2 due to the added cooling capacity. Maybe the N54 plugs run a little hotter? I'll have to check with my SA to see if he remembers exactly what the mechanic said about the plugs.

It'll be interesting to see if the 135is has the N54 plugs specified as OEM for it.

As far as any performance benefits of using the N54 plugs, I can't really say above what I have already mentioned. It's not something I can say yes the N54 plugs run better than the N55 plugs with the PPK tune. The N54 plugs were installed during the PPK2 install so there's no way for me to tell.

The "Attention" sticker that came with my PPK1 says "Replace spark plugs after 45,000 miles."

With the photos on I've posted of my engine by stickers post PPK2 install, I got the same stickers. I would be really interested to see if in fact the PPK1 kits do come with the N54 spark plugs too. I wouldn't have known the PPK2 came with and required the N54 plugs unless I had taken delivery of the parts myself before giving them to the dealership to install.
