Installed New Intake * INJEN *

Just installed my new Injen Intake.

Positives: Very simple, great price from Amazon Prime and only took 1 day to receive it. instructions were good but the pictures sent in the booklet were horrendous. Can hear a nice hisss from the turbo and diverter valve blow off noise.

downside: I had to fabricate my own bracket to hold a couple of the engine lines. you have to drill the new power steering bracket/holder into the front plastic cross member. PAIN IN THE A** to get the hose clamps connected at the turbo & start of the intake.

PICS:

OP, I hate to tell you this... but you just made your car slower. Take that injen intake pod filter thing out and put the OE intake back in. Your car will be much happier.

best....

IMO it doesn't look very nice, I like the look of the engine cover and I think it looks bad removed. But, the sound must be nice!

Would like to see these same tests done on our car. With my injen I'm at 405 whp at 18.5 psi. Wondering if the stock airbox would give the same numbers and torque/power curve. It just seems like it wouldn't but they had the proof in those videos.

I'm thinking the engine cover will go back on. Don't have a N55 so it might stick out to far? Looks like it has enough room to be put back on.

The engine cover will fit with the Injen setup. Buddy of mine has it. Sounds great. Fits very well.

There's a constant fight that goes on about air intakes, intake temps etc. A few tests and such have been posted and on a stock engine (i don't recall if it was an N54 or 55), the stock intake always wins. On a modded car, there are mixed results, but stock often still comes out on top. Without an apples to apples comparison of a before and after dyno with only the intake changed, you'll probably never know for sure.

That's what I was talking about. I always see the debate but I don't think I've ever seen a dyno of stock vs aftermarket on the same car same dyno. Also want to see it on a FBO car not stock. See if it helps spooling, power delivery and all that stuff. Maybe next summer I'll have to do it. Do logs and dyno. Get some real numbers on our cars. Not another make or model but the 1er. No debating real numbers. If it turns out the stock works better then I could mount the power steering reservoir back in its original position. That would be nice.

Thanks Fellas - I agree with what everyone is saying, basically it sounds great, the stock BMW engine cover does fit with no issues i took the picture before i put it back on just to show the clearance on top of the engine. i recommend the intake for simplicity, i installed it in less than 1 hour.

I should of had my car dyno'd before the intake was installed, would of thought there was a true stock N55 dyno'd than N55 stock with jut injen intake - sounds like there isnt. I'm debating adding my exhaust during summer or might just do all my mods in winter time. if i do the mods over winter ill just get the car dyno'd with injen and ill than install the old stock intake and post results just for true comparison.

All in all - again i think it was simple, i like the sound, seems to pull a little smoother at higher RPM (around 3200-4200), as well as being a simple install.

You can't match dyno to dyno but for general info my old 335is JB4/ISO + COBB stack with 50/50 mix if 93/100 generated 410whp on the dyno jet at Mayhem Motorsports in Raleigh. They are a Camaro, Corvette, Caddy V shop but let me run dynos there.

Car had ETS 5" FMIC, BMS Charge Pipe & stock airbox with a BMS drop in. Did a lot of the early testing on the JB4, JB4/ISO & JN4/ISO + COBB for the 335is application. Logs showed 18.5psi with a 19psi fail saft.

The best 335is in the group did 11.8 @ 117 pure stock including runflats & stock air box. Results were posted here a few years ago by the driver/owner & here is his time slips. He posted these at the time.

At some point the stock box becomes restrictive but IMHO it will cover 90% of the applications on the street.

BTW no bias against aftermarket intakes; have one on the Cobra. But just outside of the sound they don't do anything for most street apps.

Wish I could get my 60' down to that. I hit 116 mph but the time was 12.5. Think the 60' was 2.1 or so. Gonna have to try the experiment. I've always gone to the same dyno so I'll have to go back next year and swap stock for injen while I'm there.

Agree on his 60 foot & on stock RFT's, very good driving

I am on page 7 or 8 with a poor 2.0 60 foot & a 12.5 @ 114.5. Was an early tune only run on straight 93 octane. IIRC the WHP was around 365/370 on the DynoJet. The JB 4 was an early version before Terry started working on the 335is patch. Eventually it moved on to the upgraded ISO units which were a lot better right out of the box.

I believe BuraQ's run was a Dinan stage three but the 1/8 mile & 1/4 mile speed would suggest it was a little down on power. He moved on to other tunes & got nicely in the 11 second range.

Think the bang for the buck award in that time frame was JB4/ISO + COBB running 40/50% E85 in 93 premium in the 11.8 tune only car. About $1200.
