Installed Spec stg2+ and Spec SMSFW

i have installed my Spec Clutch stage 2+ and Spec SMSFW so far i have done 75miles and the chatter isn't as loud as people say it is. sometimes it doesn't even chatter when I'm stopped in neutral. And when it does its not loud at first i wasn't sure if what i was hearing was the chatter or not so i pressed in the clutch and it stopped the chatter.

for those who have Spec clutches what type of break in procedure did you guys do ?

Pretty sure it was 500 miles of normal driving before any hard launches. My chatter got slightly louder over the 500 miles. Now that it's getting cold I noticed it doesn't do it when it's cold. But when everything's up to temp it does. I want to try changing the tranny fluid with a mix I saw in a thread before. Something with redline and another fluid. Can't remember.

My chatter is pretty bad. It has progressively got louder over the past year. If I drive the car hard it seems to have less chatter to it. I might switch out fluids too to see if it makes a difference

I found a break in procedure that I thought was pretty nice on a mustang forum. It was basically go to a development or somewhere you can constantly drive around and do loops. Go to a stop sign and without using the gas take off and just keep doing no gas take off's. Like 30 or 40 or them. It keeps the temps just about right with all the stops and fairly gentle take offs. Other than that drive it for about 800 miles and do alot of down shifts. My Stage 3+ took forever to get to a decent point, but I've heard 2+ isn't near as bad. As for the noise put the window down and AC on and then you'll know chatter.

I do a lot of NYC driving so I would guess it would break in better? stop and go traffic lights

Break-ins on new clutches are BS. Do about 10 solid burnouts and your clutch will be golden.

I tried that in Dallas TX and think that made it worse. Last thing you want to do when breaking in Clutch is to get it too hot. My Stage 3+ was still breaking in way past the mileage everybody else was and I always question if that was the reason.

well when breaking in the clutch it usually is 500 miles but that is shifting miles not driving on the highway or freeway on 5 gear and do 500 miles lol
i believe driving in the city stop and go is better. i could be wrong though

and how in the hell are you "not" allowed to down shift when braking in the clutch?

Never heard of not being able to down shit, all the recommendations I got when I asked for do as many downshift as you could. I do agree stop and go is good but usually when you sitting in traffic it's not like taking off at a light where you take off and your good for a block or so, usually you might have to disengage, engage, disengage, engage the clutch several times on a single full take off cause traffic isn't going any faster then 2-3 MPH. That's where I found that the clutch would get hot, grabby and start to act like it wasn't happy. I did that for 3 days and felt the clutch feel and engagement was actually worse then when I had first put it in. I drove it normal, not in traffic, for a week after than and it improved a little but still wasn't much better than new. After doing the looping around the neighborhood I felt it really cleaned up the feel of the engagement. I drove it normal for a few more days and looped around the neighborhood for 30 minutes again and after that started to abuse the shit out of it. From there it's got slowly better and I think is finally where it's supposed to be at about 2500 miles

Or you could've just done a bunch of burnouts and gotten rid of any hot spots ;]

I would do 700 miles just to be safe. Lots of shifting very often. Fluids doesn't affect the chatter. When the clutch is broken in you will hear the chatter and it is 100x worse with the AC on.

It's only going to increase until it is fully broken in. It will sound like a diesel with the AC on.
