Brake pads
My indy mechanic recommended Akebono replacement brake pads, never heard of them. Anybody?

never used them myself but they are known in the industry. They did buy the Bosch foundation braking system a few years ago.

I use the Akebono dustless pads, put them on a couple of thousand miles ago.
I installed them on the stock rotors with 20K on them, so it took a little while for the pads to fully seat and break in. At first the initial bite was not as good as OEM, but now that they are seated, the performance difference feels pretty darn close to OEM in all ways. Either that or I just got used to it! Either way it was the solution that I wanted and am happy with. Dustless pads, clean wheels, and near OEM performance. I've used a variety of dustless pads on my 2 previous E39's (an M5 and a 540i), and was happy with the decision on both cars.
