yeah stock shifts are fastest using LC and in S3. but those same line pressure settings and then some extra can be transferred to D3 or any other mode when doing a TCU tune. difference in sound is whether trans shifts in AMax mode or in torque interrupt mode.

I'm @ 800hp / 960nm with just a map and sport cats. Costs were minimal, fun-factor difference is huge.
