Since I don't have Xenon, I am just going to leave the DRLs off from iDrive.
That is correct, the AEs come with the Xenon headlamps. Xenons are standard on the coupes and optional on the e90.

I have a Vehicle Inquiry Build sheet for a 2011 328xi currently on order.

I did order ZCV Convenience Package which includes Xenon, it shows headlight description as:
622 Xenon Headlights

On the last line at bottom of page before NET Total it states:
BTL Daytime Driving Lights Front & Rear Active

Obviously, the above states I am getting the car with DRL's activated. The car does have I Drive & I am hoping I have the option to turn off DRL's as others have suggested.

My fear is that control of DRL function might be a matter of body computer programming and not an I Drive option.

It is just activated from the factory, you can turn it off using iDrive. What the heck is the rear DRLs?

This BMW trick pisses me off. I did not want the Xenon lights because I liked the classic yellow color, so for me no AE for DRLs. In fact in the BMW DVD film, the AE DRLs was touted as a true classic BMW tradition, go figure.

I don't know about E90, but on the E92's when you have your DRLs on, the rear lights also are on. Most cars I know of only have front DRLs on.

Well they have had them for a while but just not on all models. It started off with the 5 series, e39 I think, years ago.

Yes the rear lights are on, and it's the same with the e90s.

So anyone knows what's with this feature? If BMW is showing it in all it's models, someone at BMW must know how to activate them.

BTW this is not specific to Xenon lights as the DVD showed both Xenon and standard AE as DRLs.

Only cars with the xenon headlamps will have the angel eyes as DRL.

All other halogen lamps function the same as older models
