So, can I assume that means we will lose all our settings, and any coding changes (Bimmercode)?

If you don't have any check engine lights, I wouldn't worry about it. They'll catch it on your next service. If you're getting warnings, then by all means, call them and make an appointment, but if you don't have any problems, why bother? I'm about due for my second oil change. So, they'll probably end up doing this, as well as the transmission wire reroute recall that came out earlier in the year.

Not that I could tell, but I didn’t have a lot of time with the car before the rug was pulled out from under me!
Honestly guys, don’t overthink it. I’m fairly certain BMW released this as a whole new software build because it would make it that much easier to test and verify the corrected emissions programming is installed (or not). Which will help them in evidencing remediation to the govt authorities whom I’m certain dictated a huge part of the approach, and timing for this whole thing. One misstep and BAM, millions of Euros in fines! |

So? Chances are it's just fine. It's not an actual core function of the car, it's only a diagnostic tool to confirm something is working properly. If it's safety or emissions related, then it has to be recalled immediately and can't be sold, thus the recall and sale hold. Thus, yes it's a big deal to BMW at a corporate level, (and to people who were affected by the sales hold). It's not safety related and won't leave me stranded somewhere, so it's not a big deal to me, so I'm not going to go out of my way, taking time out of my life to make a special trip to the dealer just for this. They can take care of it he next time it's in for scheduled service.

But your prior statement was logically incorrect. That's what my response was directed at. No more, no less. |

I'm not sure what's illogical or incorrect about it. Maybe it wasn't written as clearly as it could be... I'm not saying it shouldn't be taken care of, just that, in my opinion, it doesn't warrant a special trip, and they can take care of it next time they have the car for something else.

Got a call from the dealership last week to schedule the ECU fix on Wednesday. I've read other posts that after BMW remapped the ECU for some simple fix that it changed the sound and performance of the car for the worse (no more burbles and not as quick). Has anyone done the fix and have similar issues?

I realized a bit later after my previous post that i also lost the M1/M2 settings. Zero change otherwise in exhaust sound, pops, etc.

maybe a burnt module?
so I have quick searched through the forums and couldn't find a similar problem.
my car was taken in for the recall on 30th December, was told I would get my car within 6 hours or the next day. 31th December dealer said my car failed update twice. in addition, they connected to BMW hq for direct connection still failed. finally, they mentioned that there is a module which is not responding and needs to be changed with no current stock. could anyone please explain to me the problem & why could I be the only one facing it? p.s my friend told me the module might be burnt from too many failed trails, and no replacement car till today!!!: |

I think us European owners may have more to worry about regarding engine burbles / pops / bangs etc - we have a PPF filter and I have heard that the current model year cars lose all the pops and bangs. I'm concerned that is because of the latest software update.
To be fair, my 2018 model doesn't pop or bang anyway, but it does burble which I like. I don't want to lose that due to this update.
