Not true!

This is considered a "minor" infraction.

Once you have 3 or more, your insurance company may randomly perform a drivers abstract check on you and discover it... and then you're screweedddd

So if you don't have any other "minor" infractions, will one instance raise your insurance??

90% of the time or more, it is NOT the first offence they're looking for... usually the "no front plate" ticket is just a secondary or later offence when being pulled over...

Example: pulled over for weaving in and out of traffic like some fast and the furious douchebag... cops do a circle around the car and notice the plate missing and you're getting it too.
In that case, I will risk it. Especially in Ottawa, since we're on the border, there are countless Quebec cars here without a plate up front. I don't think cops bother looking. I'll try to behave otherwise so I don't get pulled over...

My broker told me they perform these checks annually. When it happens though, is random. If they discover more than 3 minor convictions (not 3 tickets, but 3 tickets you were convicted of) then they usually consider that as 1 major offence.

car insurance companies in ontario are blood sucking vampires... we should have public/no fault insurance like the rest of canada.

Twisted insurance companies logic. How does not wearing your front plates or a parking infraction make a you a threat on the road or a bad driver? WTF!
We definitely need more oversight over these criminals!

I'm not a fan of the front license plate either, BUT...

Not obeying the front license plate law does tell them something about your willingnes to obey laws, regardless of how dumb you may think they are.

As others said, it's $110. I've had a few now in just 6 months.. Got one the other day pulling out of Fairview mall.. cops who have nothing better to do and are looking to meet their qouta will pull you over for it. I love how it looks without it, but it's almost not worth the hassle. Sucks because my front lip and black lower mesh just came in and I'm considering putting the plate back on after 3 tickets.

insurance companies never look at parking infractions... the only thing its there for is when you try to renew your vehicle sticker... MTO won't let you do it unless you pay up the fines first lol.

the license plate isn't a "moving" violation... but it's still a violation in the H.T.A.

I've just signed the petition and also sent a message to the ministry of transportation using their feedback form. This is a law I'd like to see changed. People pay a lot of money for their vehicles and although there are other obvious reasons to not have a front plate (i.e. cost to produce, damage in minor bumper collisions, etc), people pay a lot of money for there cars and the front plate just looks aweful.

Speaking of front plates, anyone here from Montreal can tell me why most if not all cars there don't have them?

Quebec stopped issuing front plates years ago for cost saving.

Ditto with Alberta! No front plates for any Alberta vehicle.
