I've wanted to like even love the C8 body style. But, it just hasn't grown on me. It's a bit cartoonish.

Exactly why I passed on one, unlike all the Corvettes before it, this C8 ZR1 would just absolutely suck at driving in snow, I mean ABSOLUTELY suck in the snow.

Very cool how serious about performance GM and Ford are.

But without a manual I'm out.

I thought all generations of Corvettes were bad in the snow. This power level obviously makes it worse. But modern traction control may help.

****It is my understanding that in the USA less than 1% of cars sold are manual now. Almost NO younger people want them, nor even know how to drive one.

I was at a fancy shmancy restaurant down town with the gal pal and brought along one of my manual cars and the Valet parking attendant just flat out said "I'm so sorry sir, but I don't know how to drive a stick shift.."...

OMG. He seemed a bit embarrassed by it so of *course* my alpha female high falutin' lawyer gal pal immediately says "I'll park it, thanks."....

Just BRUTAL. That woman is not one to be trifled with... All 100 lbs of her...

***Meaning no disrespect to anyone, but I personally would just not drive a Corvette in the snow... It is not designed for that. I know people that have only one car and have separate tires/wheels with dedicated snow tires, etc.. and more power to them, but the ground clearance and other issues would make me personally hesitate to choose to drive a Corvette in the snow.

It's true but those of us who are devoted to manuals still exist. Good for you to have a better half that appreciates them.

I bought a very nice 911 GTS recently. Selling it after 2 months because the PDK just isn't a manual, even if in every metric it's better, it's boring. Every sacrifice is soul killing. Size, weight, electric power steering, lack of real manuals.

Generally quite bored with new cars, can't be bothered. Performance figures are very cool esp the new GTD. They just aren't engaging at speeds below triple digits. In many ways I'd rather drive a manual Corolla.

According to C8 owners here in Alaska, it does pretty good...you know, weight close to the drive axle thing...

Great performance. Piss poor price for a Chevy. No, I am not a "hater" I have owned Corvettes. Just don't understand how a Chevy costs as much as an exotic now. The pricing of all new cars is lol out of control. Burn it all down

I thought it was obviously a joke when you said you skipped the ZR1 because of snow capability. Why would that ever be a factor for the purchase of a 1000-horsepower Corvette.

I wrote that, because I have room only for cars I drive and because driving in my area requires driving in the snow part of the year. I don’t own any cars without snow wheels. An AWD 991.2 Turbo with snow wheels does OK. It won’t put full power down but you can get around if you find yourself in snow.

I have a 3200 lb turbo E36 M3 that makes over 700 rwhp that has snow wheels. Obviously, I won’t try to put all of that power down in the snow, but it works. Maybe the Corvette with its modern traction control and a set of snows would do just as well, but it does not have a back seat so to me it is just a toy.

They should implement most of the transmission modifications in all versions of the C8.

***Probably very very few. At least in my area, the people buying these types of cars tend to be older men who aren't exactly the Fast and Furious or drifting the car out of every turn kind of guys...

I've driven the newer ZO6 Corvette before and it is remarkably well mannered and fast. If anything, the Hellcat or Red Eye are *much* scarier cars to drive and very very easy to wrap around a telephone pole as they just do not handle as nicely as the new Corvette.

So when I say older guy, I'm not talking shuffling gate, in a walker, with a hot nurse/helper on the side... Just uhhh... a mature dude....

Dude...are you serious?

1) Why would you drive a super car in the winter let alone the snow which means salt on the roads etc? it's like saying my ferrari sucks in the winter wtf!?!

2) Have you driven a high performance rwd car in the winter before with pure race tires? They are like hockey pucks.

3) It is super low to the ground. If you are concerned about the the snow the last thing you want is something low.

It was never designed to be in the snow. Like every other supercar.

"My car runs 9s but it sucks in the snow wft man?" <-- You sound like a idiot. If anything the extra weight on the rear axle would help it. Wait till you find out they don't make snow tires which fit the rims. Maybe you can make a post about that.

edit: Seriously who thinks about a c8 and the snow?

The GM exec who put the C7 ZR1 pace car into the wall coming out of the pits appreciates your vote of confidence

Oh goody goody, fisher price special that with markups will cost more than a used 720.

I'd rather buy the 720.

Carbon Monocoque? Check.
Not a stupid hybrid? Check.
Will it actually make a thousand to the wheels? Inlet, downpies + reflash, CHECK.
Will the tranny blow up? No sir. Graziano. Good luck trying to get it to blow up.

Good job GM, you done priced yourself too high. Looking forward to gapping ZR1s on the street because it's not like the geriatric owners take 'em to the track.

Now the real money question, which build quality is shittier, the Mclaren or Chevy

Has anyone used a previous gen ZR1 to tow a boat? That’s keeping me from getting one. Would love some real world experiences in towing.
