Why does a 2020 M2 need new spark plugs at 13k miles?
I admit I am lost. Since the car is still under the free maintenance plan, I went with it. However I definitely will not change the plugs at the next planned interval. Can someone justify why a car with only 13k miles needs new plugs? Thanks.

Answered time and time again. Service intervals are mileage OR annual. Whichever comes first.

"It's triggered by number of oil changes." I think it's the fifth? For any new owners - drive the car and get it in. Mine was out of maintenance plan. |

The plug interval is 30K for an unmodded car, and 20K for a modded car. All of this info is direct from my SA who races his 2016 regularly. |

Thanks guys. From now on, I will change the plugs every 25-30k miles, regardless of what BMW wants. It just seems like a money grab to change it so frequently, after the free maintenance plan ends.

Not much else of note, but you can take this opportunity to ask them to adjust your parking brake for free. Once your maintenance warranty runs out they won't do it. |

The spark plugs is about $600- $1000 so thats a major one before the warranty expires and they won’t tell ya so gotta be on top of it. I remembered right before my warranty was up, literally days so took it there for it. Tried to get a free oil change but I done it 3k miles ago and they only give you free changes every 10.

There's NO reason that spark plugs need to be replaced on an "annual" (or any other length of time) schedule. That's nuts. What's going on here is that dealers are paid to replace them during the free 3/36 maintenance period, so a ton of them seem to do it as soon as BMW will allow it, which for some stupid reason is way too soon. The interval for plugs is 30k and zero reason to replace them before that. I saw one dealer do them at 4k. Great. So when the guy hits 34k will they replace them free again? I doubt it, 3/36 Ultimate Care probably only covers one replacement.

Or more likely they pinched BMW for fees, wasting perfectly good plugs |

2020 M2C.
3 years service program ends and I went to dealer 30 days before end. 1. Oil Change 2. 2 Air Filters 3. Brake Fluid 4. Spark Plugs All no charge. I have 14,000 miles (3 years). All regular driving but NO track. Looks all I need for future maintenance is to change oil at one year intervals. |

I don't understand why people get so upset at free service? Yeah they don't need replaced but your car is already going in for service so what's the harm?

Because humans perform the service. Not that it's hard, but dealerships were hit or miss before COVID. Now, since COVID arrived, service quality in everything seems like it took a hit. It's just plugs, but I'd still rather not have some newbie tech screw something up for a service I didn't need.

So if you only get one freebie, and they do it at 5k, then you're due again at 35k, and it's coming out of your pocket. THEN you'll understand why you don't want it done at 5k. Or early at all. Let them pay at 30k, and you won't be out of pocket for another change till 60k. Make sense now?
