Anyone do the OEM muffler mod in Vancouver? Can I have a listen?
Been considering doing the mod to the OEM exhaust. I'm not sure just how much louder it is. Most who have done don't regret it and love it and the price certainly seems right. Haven't found any shops will to do it either, even a local BMW specialty shop won't touch it. If anyhow has done this please PM me so I can perhaps meet up and have a listen so I know it's what I'm looking for.

I'm pretty sure no one local has done this and posted about it. Prince of Persia recently did it in Calgary. I'd try calling around to muffler shops, not repair shops.

I did that in Calgary as Chowster mentioned. The best $400 I spent on my car, I love the sound! Youmcan take a look at the this for result (page 2): http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=600991

Ok, my friend who owns his own small racing shop says he can do it. One of his partners has excellent experience in stainless welding. Off the top of their head, based on photos of the mod, his estimate is about 3 hours for the work from start to finish assuming you want to just wrap the perforations with exhaust tape or tack on a larger diameter pipe to cover the pipe. Cutting and replacing the pipe might take more time and thus more money. I'm considering it and if I get it done maybe we can meet.

It's likely I'll be getting this done this weekend. We think we have a different technique to do it. We'll document it and of course have the obligatory videos. If it turns out awesome then I'll try to set up a time to meet.

You can DIY if you have metal working skills and stainless steel welding skills. Otherwise it might best left to those with experience in such things. Most people take it to some sort of muffler shop.

i know it sounds a little obvious, but I heard the OEM muffler mod and it seemed to sound identical to the x pipe (secondary cat delete) I had at one point. Wouldn't it be easier to just get an x pipe?

Have you had a chance to hear it in person because it definitely sounds different in my opinion from just a cat delete setup. Also, doing a cat delete is riskier because you may run into warranty issues later on.

i've heard an M3 with an OEM mod and x-pipe revving side by side. The OEM mod sounds more raspy which is not really a big deal. I've taken my car in twice for warrantee and didn't have any issues but i guess it good be different from dealership to dealership... just my 2 cents. I'd personally rather keep my OEM parts and do a mod that also gives some power gains but I know some people are all for this mod and I do see why.
