Who's adding the top and side cameras?

Just curious who is opting for the Side and Top view camera on their M3/M4, I didn't see a poll for it. I have never had a car with these features, and I have read on some other threads how useful they can be in the city with parking (top view) and pulling into traffic with obstructed view (side view). I don't want to get the full blown drivers assistance package. It'll be nice to be getting the rear view cam with the parking sensors in the exec pkg, also new for me.

Seems a little excessive to me, but I can see it being useful for someone who backs out of a driveway everyday with a wall of trees on one side obscuring the view of oncoming cars.

I use it often in my 535i, actually every time I drive

disclaimer=>remember the 535i is a bigger car hence more benefit from this feature, also you may not need if you already good parking.

scenarios:

-when parking at the store/supermarket etc.... just to make shure I'm in the right spot, in between the lines, and may protect the lower front bumper where the sensors may fail.

-when approaching any drive thru, I can get the closest to the window without banging the rims, some drive thru have narrow and sharp curves

-every time going into my garage

-parking between two cars next to the curbside

In summary, for me this feature has keep my tires/rims in perfect condition, not a scratch in almost 3 years driving it

may choose this option again in the M3 just because I'use to it

The side cameras are worthless. I thin I have used them only 1-2 times in my X5. It was winter with huge obstructive snow piles and I was pulling out into a cross street. If you ask me it is more novelty.

The old top view which I have that does not include the front cam but it is still very useful. It really helps when me maneuvering in tight spaces. You can see curbs and others obstacles which you may not be able to see.

I did I park on the street on a daily basis in Miami. It's will be worth it when I put some 8k HREs or Bbs

Exactly this for me ^^^^^
I skipped the rest of package as I am not comfortable with a driving assistant feature having total control of my car as its not always best to slam brakes but maneuver away from danger. I also understand that Active Driving feature sensors interfere with radar detector and that is deal killer. Lastly the speed limit will just be annoying as who really will ever go the speed limit in this car unless you are in a development or school/park area. Radar detector and speed limit info just sounds like a huge contradiction dont you think?

It may be different in Canada and US, but here the package is not 'active assistance' in the sense of taking control of the car with steering or braking, it is just passive (ie: visual and audio warnings when you are going to change lanes into another car, etc)

We had the option of active vs passive on our Benz. Did not like on test drive the active (easy enough to override- just keep steering) but the passive, frankly, i appreciate.

On OP's question, not sure if we will stick with the rear view camera or get more.

I have the 360-degree cameras in my RRS. honestly, I've not used them once, other than poking around with the infotainment. I also live in the city, but I've never felt the need for them when parking.

I will skip the assistant feature also
I have the line departure assist and blind sensors currently
for the line assist I noticed the steering wheel will vibrate more than really needed and I trust my correct positioned mirrors and look over my shoulder instead of the blind sensors, you may still have an accident if rellying on the sensors alone, ie car approaching to your blind spot from another lane

for the speed limit I will get the Escort passport max, here in Orlando you really needed it. Got a ticket for crusing at 39mph on a nice curvy 30mph limit road, the radar will also tell you the speed limit in the area you are driving

Added the cameras ala carte, I figured I could save some curb rash while parallel parking and such...

my thoughts exactly. not that I'd ever have a radar detector in Virginia. That's illegal.

My parents have this on their 3 series GT.. Its phenomenal.. I don't need help parking but its VERY useful if you are pulling up to a curb and want to make sure you dont curb the rims by accident (it only takes once... I've done it 2 times in 7/8 yrs on the RS4 and its so painful)

Anyway, you guys should check out a video of how it looks and how it works. Its really top notch and helps you out of a bunch of situations, even if you don't need help backing out of your garage.

A la carte. Use the cameras in the X5 all the time - fantastic feature in a country with narrow roads and carparks and urban infrastructure not built to acommodate Hummers and F350's driven by soccer Mums. They are invaluable in city driving and in carpark buildings/supermarkets etc.

As far as I know, only the rearview cam would be related to being in reverse, and the other cams can be accessed only when going really slow. I know as you hit a certain speed they automatically turn off.

You can activate them by hitting the button any time under 30kmh (~20mph) and they automatically come on in reverse and the mirrors dip - that's in the X5 anyway.
