Intake vavle cleaning is more of a "getting your car back to feeling like it did when new". It's not really a preventive maintaince? What are you preventing? If you never clean your vavles, I feel like the car will run fine to a normal user lol

Approaching 85k miles. All the typical warranty work done plus a walnut blast at 50k. I've had no issues since. Only mod I have is a PE, still pulls hard. My plan is to follow Mike Millers Old School maintenance schedule.

Certainly not preventative. Doing so will just make it smoother and more like new. Not 100% clean air going through the valves won't hurt, it just won't run as smooth as new.

126k - the only non-routine work was the window regulators and crank position sensor.
Intake cleaning can be delayed, but you'll end up doing it at some point. If you can tolerate the performance loss, wait until you have the manifold off for other stuff and the cost is minimal (especially if diy). Watch for oil leaks and expect to replace a few gaskets. Read the board(s) for symptoms of problems, and get a code reader. Oh, and replace the water pump before 100k or expect to get stranded at some (random) time. |
