Lost interest 20 seconds into the article. Thanks for sharing though.

It's pretty true overall. You just have to be willing to deal with the issues. The problem for me is that all the older luxury cars I want are of the performance variety which makes them a bit more expensive to maintain and more of a time bomb

The author comes across as a douchebag. He couldn't help a guy jumpstart his car because his electrical systems were fragile...give me a break.

That and he keeps reminding the reader that his car is an island of awesomeness in a sea of hondas...he's driving a MB s5000..it's a cool car but nothing to lose your mind over.

The whole article seemed to have an arrogant tone.

Non-ABC W220 S-Classes are the exception to the German reliability norm.. I had one just like in the article.. An air strut or two might give up on you but the rest of the car was dependable and relatively low cost to own. The competing E38 and E65/66 will fuck your wallet silly and hard on the other hand..

I've read his other articles.. He makes a load of cash flipping cars..

Meh, I can relate. In fact, when I bought my car I was originally looking for an 09-10 V6 Accord at about $20-25k. Stumbled upon an '06 330i for less than $18k and with marginally more miles so I bit. I've easily spent more on maintenance/modifications on this car than I would have spent on a Honda, but that's purely because the car is 100% more engaging. I never realized that a car could be so much more than just a means from A to B until after I test drove that first 3-er.

I get shit from coworkers about packing my lunch when I am driving a BMW, but I do love watching old men enviously watch me get out of my car at gas stations too. The belief that nice car = rich driver is a funny thing indeed.

That guys is a douche. So he buys a $5.000 mb and he thinks he owns the world and he can't help someone in need for something simple like a boost. Lol i hope i hope the car fails miserably on him lol

That is a compliment compared to what I was thinking.

Yeah he's only had that thing for a year so how he's currently a used luxury car master I don't understand.

As for the guy with the kids asking for money, it happens to everyone. Not just people with nice cars. I live around the corner from an area where someone will ask anyone for a buck while smoking a ciggarette and standing in the same spot for 5 hours. I get what he's saying, but it doesnt just happen to guys with 14 year old mercedes.

What an asshole. I don't think there's any car that makes you too good to give someone a jump.

I can't fault the guy for refusing to jump a complete stranger when he knows there is a serious risk of damage to his car by doing so (he's not making it up either, the very thing he warns against happened to my uncle's E39.) The author never claimed to be too good to jump anyone, he just knows what he should/shouldn't do with his car.

Would you use the front bumper of your car to push someone up a snowy hill? Same concept.

I guess. Still, sounds to me like he's a better asshole than electrician.

So I don't know which article you were reading, but in *this* article, he seems to indicate he's too good to jump this guy.

Now the entire article may have been tongue-in-cheek, but I just don't think he pulled it off well.

I think because in the article the car in question was a MB, many will not see the point.

With the jumping another guys car comments aside, he's got a point. I'd rather drive a 2007 328i than a 2012 Camry
