Well it will be a week tomorrow. Just got a call from my SA saying that the valve cover is on national back order, as well as some other parts and it will be at least a few more days...

I'm wondering as well. I take my car in this Thursday (again) for the same code. They cleared my code last time saying it was a computer glitch and that's what it told them to do. I don't buy it.

After 4 trips to the dealer, I am finally getting my new DDE.
1st Trip they cleaned out the Carbon 2nd they changed one of the injectors 3rd they changed all the injectors 4th they ordered the DDE but gave me my car back till it gets here from Germany. It's jokes I told my SA when I was dropping it off that they were gonna have to order a DDE. I got a call later in the day and the first thing he said was you were right. Thanks to everyone on this forum. |

From all my reads I still do not know what causes DDEs to fail. Did I miss something. I guess it would be a painstaking process to diagnose the faults within DDE.

I thought I had read that it was engine harness short.

That was a theory provided to me as my engine harness was replaced and also the DDE. See my previous thread regarding this.
However, root cause of DDE failure is just speculation. Only BMW Engineering would know. As we all know Some SAs pull theories out of thin air. |

I went through the same issues you've had. 1. Started as a very slight idle stumble only occasionally at 47k miles. 2. I took it in and directed them to check for carbon buildup. 3. They found buildup, opened a PUMA case, and did a full cleaning and also installed 6 new injectors at my request. 4. Upon getting car back I was getting the zero quantity adaption injection codes. 5. Took it back in with a copy of the BMW SIB 13 07 10 which shows the remedy is a new DDE. 6. They opened PUMA again and replaced the DDE. Car has been stellar ever since, now with 55k miles. (knock on wood) |

So are all of those parts going to need to be replaced again in 50K? Obviously out of warranty.
Did they say/document how much all that work would cost out of warranty? |

Chances are high that yes, in another ~50k miles you'll need to decarbon. Unless you delete/block a vowel and two consonants under your hood. |

DDE can't possibly be in the same category as an oil filter or DPF (maintenance item). Can it??
