Going M Stealth - Plasti-Dip Begins!

Just did the exterior emblems on the car this morning. Was waiting for a warm day off to do it. Decided to shoot both emblems at first. I will decide after a bit whether to pull off the black from the "///" logo. As of now, this is how it appears. Complete job from start to finish including masking 1 hour 15 minutes.

Nice work, looks really good. I would vote for showing the /// assuming it comes out clean with no chrome showing. You consider removing the badges on the fender and leaving just the back?

I need to leave everything on the car as is, or be able to convert it back to original without any problems. Removing the emblems and re-attaching might be too much trouble. This is a two year lease stop gap until the M2 comes out. I did the same black out on my WRX (lots of rear deck chrome there) and when I traded it in the dealer said not to remove it. He said his buyer wanted to it stay blacked out .

Gotcha, lining those up to put back on would be a bitch. I have always turned mine back in debadged, I really don't think you'd have any trouble especially if you are upgrading to an M2 but don't quote me on that in 2 years if you get hassled about it.

I wasn't sure at first and left it fully covered. After reading a couple comments and thinking more I removed the black off the colors. The power of Plasti Dip.

That looks awesome. If I weren't debadging I'd be all over that. Nice job.

Looks nice, definitely second place to a debadge, but if you don't have that option, it ain't a bad alternative!

Looks great! That's on my list as well. With regard to the actual application, did you just mask a square around the badge and pull up the plasti-dip around the lettering? Or did you actually mask around all the letters individually?

I debadged my e90 as well as tinted it and swapped out the reflectors and never got any trouble from BMW.

That said, now that the /// isn't plasti-dipped, it looks sweet.

You mask off around the area giving yourself about a 1/2-1 inch away from the entire emblem. I used about 4 coats on the emblems allowing 5-10 minutes between coats (very light ones at that). With emblems you want to peel the excess off within one hour of the final coat so it breaks very easily away from the actual emblem. I waited about 7 hours later before peeling the "///" portion off and it was a little tough to get started with the toothpicks as the Plasti Dip was already starting to get firmly attached to the symbol.
