Plugging iphone into centre console USB

Right, apologies, but stupid question time....

What should happen when you plug an iphone into the centre console USB port? When I plugged mine in the other for the first time it made the chime that you hear when you plug the phone into the charger, but kept repeating this noise every second.

I just used a normal iphone charger USB cable, am I supposed to use a special cable or something? I've got pro media.

Thanks.

It should appear as a Audio source ie USB in media it overrides any Bluetooth you might have on. It should charge of course as well. I use a genuine lightning cable with no issue.

Sounds like I may have a problem somewhere then. Mines a 4S so the older cable, the USB port works fine as I've a stick plugged in and play music from it all the time.
I'll have to try a different cable/iphone.

Could well be the cable mate. Not sure if this will help with wired connections but worth checking the software level

Cheers dazza, I've downloaded the latest software version and I'll give that a go.

^^^ this Iphone 4S for me latest IOS.....

PS All those with Iphone 4S's you can get used BMW cradles for around £30 now on the bay which is not bad compared to £80 new. Picked one up last week and I can feel less radiation in the cabin already

I think it is a cable issue & suggest trying a couple of others.
I have Pro Nav & EBT and use a snap in for an old iphone 3gs, however I sometimes plug my iphone 4s into the armrest USB and with some cables when i plug in the iphone, i get the repeated buzzing at approx 1s intervals - it is like the phone is constantly recognising being plugged into a power source - I hink a different cable will sort it out.

Cheers matey, I've got a couple of cables lying around somewhere I'll give them a try.
To be honest I dont think the cable I tried was the Apple OEM USB cable (but the copies do look identical!).

I too have this problem with my iPhone 5 intermittently. I've changed the cable previously, but the problem returns - would think it's most likely a poor quality USB socket in the car. Don't usually plug anything else into the socket - so can't confirm it occurs on other devices.

I know it's already been said but I have this issue if I use the cheap none OEM cable in the car with my iPhone 5s, if I use the OEM cable I don't have an issue.

It seems the none OEM can not deliver enough power in combination with the cars USB port.

I blame my cheap none OEM cable not the car as the same cable will not charge my iPad Air when using the apple OEM charger.

I'm hoping the EU makes it law that mobile phone vendors have to use a standard interface so I don't have to buy a new bloody cable every time I change phones.

Thanks guys, I've tried an OEM Apple cable and it connects fine. I should have tried that in the first place!
