Paint Issue

Just noticed this while washing yesterday - don't see it anywhere else so that's got my hackles up. Chunks of paint are flaking off the wheel well end of the rocker panel - can't tell if this is a plastic piece that maybe had paint overspray...and maybe this is normal...but I'm gonna have to contact service I guess unless someone says this is "normal"...

Are you referring to this spot? Looks like road grime to me (asphalt). Hit it with some tar remover and see what happens.

I'll see if I can get a better angle/light but I zoomed in a little - if it's road tar it's an awfully thin and even layer of it...and it's nice and rich black...not a dark gray from what I would guess as tar. Got the car at 12 miles and I'm just shy of 5000 now...the summer tires are sticky and shower the car with rocks...but I wasn't expecting this.

If the paint is coming off, they will fix it (had a similar issue with a X5) but it looks like something else is on there. Sorta like tape with a textured layer.

I had the same problem with my driver side rocker panel; brought it to the dealership and had corporate determine that it was a paint defect.
They sent me to their body shop and those guys suggested that the dealership order order a new one because the primer did not adhere to the plastic correctly.

Took about a week, and the dealership let me drive my car without the rocker panel so I just garaged it at home.
