Actual speed vs speedometer

For a long time I noticed my actual speed was lower then what the speedo indicated.
There are areas here monitored by radar signs which tell you how fast you are going in a certain speed limit zone.
My speed was always lower than what the speedo showed.

For the past 6 months I've used torque app and it's GPS and OBD speed gauges.
There is a 3-5 mph difference between those and the dashboard, with the dashboard showing a higher speed.

I have the original size tires btw.

Does anyone else have this issue?

Common in all BMWs. Motive is to keep you from getting crazy speeding tickets. In the coding of BMWhat app you can change it to show actual speed. I have it coded so I can see actual in digital format on my trip computer.

it is not just BMW thing, all car companies do that, they all show your speed a bit higher than your actual speed is, it has something to do with the tolerances of the speedometer plus this way they are protected, you can't say your speedometer shows lower speed than your actual speed and that is why you got the speeding ticket

You can use BMWhat to "code in" the M3 digital speedo to show your true, uncorrected speed. I leave it on mine all the time.

If I recall correctly, you can code corrected vs uncorrected on the actual speedo as well. But yeah, the digital V=xxxKP/H or MPH works great. You also get current fuel consumption as well.

Doesn't work on our US 335d's. The analog correction "removal" only works on early E90s- so our LCIs are out of luck. I've tried coding it and no go. Confirmed by others on this board.

I use Torque app which allows me to use GPS speed and a digital readout. There is a slight difference between those two, but significant compared to the car speedo.
