I am also intrigued. I know it has bigger discs and painted callipers, but what is difference between this and m performance brakes?

I think it's worth it for the aesthetics alone especially if you have got a EB2

A must in my opinion. Worth it just for the looks alone.

Almost nothing. Mostly cosmetic differences.

The M Performance brake discs have little dimples, the calipers come in a variety of colours and are available for different models. And can be fitted by a Dealer.

BMW want you to have the Msport brakes fitted, and if not want you to upgrade to to M Performance brakes if you want to fit the PPK. So, worth fitting the Msport brakes at the factory if you think you might go that route.

I have them. Work well with a nice meaty feel - tested earlier this week in the Alps. Good.

The brake calipers are the same as the m performance brakes. The discs on the cheaper option are plain whereas on the dearer option they are grooved and dimpled. Go for the sport + pack. The brakes not only look good - they deliver tremendous stopping power. I have a 335d which is a heavy car so I like the reassurance that it can pull up easily.

I think these brakes are good from the point of view that driving under normal conditions, very little pressure is needed to make them bite.
However, I find when I need to emergency brake, they seem to need a hell of a lot of pressure.

Anybody else found this?

Doesn't the 335d come with the 4 pot front calipers as standard? Or is it just the 335i that has them!

I think so and as a result, not sure how much the 335d benefits from M Sport brakes other than a better feel. I dont think they pull up any quicker.

I found the opposite, because of the 'braking assistant' if i hit the brake pedal quickly the full force of the brakes is applied immediately! And your face nearly comes off!

Think the only benefit to the 335's is the bigger rear discs and calipers isn't it?

I got them as part of the m sport + package, I wanted the speaker upgrade and the 19" wheels at least so the + package made financial sense, the fact that better brakes is never a bad option out of all the boxes that can be ticked they are worth considering.

Look at the m sport + package and it's contents and cost, and how many of its contents you would like, decision will then be made for you.

Hmmmmmm, maybe there is something wrong with mine as I dont feel this. Dont get me wrong, they do pull up, but I do find I need A LOT of pressure to pull up fast.

My 335d was the same, a few times I didn't think I was going to stop, I have the same m sport brakes on the 435i and it stops much better, maybe the problem is with x-drive?

I find them a little soft on initial pressing of the pedal, but very powerful when really needed. Almost more importantly, on a longer drive using heavy braking I've been very happy with how they've held up.

I think some folk slightly misunderstand the real benefits of the bigger braking system.. in that it's less about the absolute stopping distance, which in many cars is limited more by the tyres than the actual brakes in a one off situation, but more about the ability to sustain that on hard driving from high speed.

So the bigger discs and calipers have a much better ability to absorb and dissipate heat than smaller ones. So if anyone tries a few stops just to see the difference then really not sure they would feel any, unless they start doing multiple emergency stops from high speed in quick succession!

As for the MSport brakes... for £500 I think they are a bargain, and well worth it just for aesthetics alone!

Maybe it is the xdrive - based on the fact teaston's 330d sdrive is ok and your 435i is ok. Or maybe its the extra weight.

On the 435i I hardly have to touch the brakes to stop, the 335d felt more like that when I first got it but seemed to get worse after it had been at the dealers for 3 weeks, it could just be that i got used to the brakes on the 428i though

Me also - this seemed like a no brainer to me ahem I had wheels, privacy glass and then I really wanted HK audio too - brakes sealed the deal!

I was thinking of upgrading to these brakes but having read the above thread with similiar experiences to you I dont think I'll bother!

These are a well balanced brake. They fell 'normal' and progressive under most driving conditions. However, they work a treat when you ask them to work hard.

I haven't pushed them as hard as some will. Though, I had a twisty A road blast a while ago and constantly out-braked myself...

I'd say a great addition, a no-brain option as part of the M Sport Plus Pack, worth considering in their own right.

Yes, I am generally unimpressed with the MSport+ brakes on my 335d. I know it is a heavy car - but there is no "bite" in them whatsoever, my dad picked up his new Mazda CX-5 last week and I went for a quick drive it in and if you so much as touched the brake pedal you were sharply pushed forward in your seat took some getting used to compared with my F30.

Maybe they improve when bedding in? Or I have weak right foot.
