Question Hardwire a Radar to 335xi

I've bought a 9500i and I want to hide the wire. Went to Circuit City and the installer didn't want to mess with it because of all the fuses the car uses. He told me that he didn't know which fuse to tap into to get the power. What are people hardwiring these radars (Escorts, V1, Bel's) to. What fuse are you taping into to get the current. I use to use the Cigarette lighter fuse in my Acura, but they don't know what fuse to use. Anybody?

Have you had a chance to use the 9500i yet? I know you're trying to hardwire it but I was curious as to how good it is. The new features look sweet.

Definately search the electronics forums for Valentine 1 DIY. There is one with pics in there that will make it very easy for you.

I tapped into the park distance control fuse, mainly because I opted not to have that option installed. But the DIY will really make your life easy. Just be patient when doing anything yourself! It's much more rewarding knowing you did the work yourself and saved some $$$ Good luck!

Does it matter if I use the PDC fuse , even though I have the PDC feature in my car?

I want to mount it low, so don't want to open the center console. I just want to run a wire to the fuse box and bring the mute button to the driver side.

The radar is awesome. I like the whole GPS mute. Once I mute it no longer beeps in that area. I really big feature for me since I'm in the city.

Use the fusetap method and tap into your homelink fuse, literally took me about 5 minutes to do my install, it's so simple.

Perfect. Let me go back today and see if they can install it to the Homelink. This won't affect my PDC functionability? I do have that feature in my car.

My installer tapped into the rear view mirror and mounted it right next to it. Love the location!

Nope. They're wired in parallel with the fuse tap, each circuit with its own fuse..

Why don't you just save yourself some money and do it yourself? If you are willing to take a drive to NJ, I can help you out. I'm sure there are other people in NYC that have done this also and will offer you their assistance. I just installed the V1 myself and let me just say, that it is very easy, once you buy a mini-fuse tap from Pep Boys (that's where I got mine).

You should also post your question in the regional forums. There are a lot of local members that are always on there, including me.

And also remember, that Josh's pics are for the 325. The 335's fuse box is different. I also used Josh's instructions and followed the fuse that he tapped into. And I was wondering why it would shut off when I turned off the ignition. Then I checked the fusebox layout and found that the Homelink fuse is in a different location for the 335's.

Thanks Josh for your write-up! It helped a lot!

Planing on using the Homelink too. Can you take a pic or tell exactly where the fuse is in the 335. I think I'm gonna try it myself. I would like to drive to Union, but that defeats the purpose of saving $ (gas, tolls, miles).

Thanks

If you look at the fuse card, it is the one with the litle cone with waves bouncing off of it, along with a house with a triangle in it.. You can definitely DIY, very easy..
