You ready for this? A 335d meet-up!

That's right my diesel enthusiasts. Not a regular bimmer meet-up but a 335d meet-up. Isn't that awesome? Why of course it is.

Fellow member RallyeRalle and I have decided to start one up because hey, why not? Now, if you don't live in the SoCal area but happen to be around the neighborhood on May 17th or 18th, then by all means please join us as we plan to tackle the beautiful Angeles Crest Highway. If you haven't driven your 335d around this breathtaking 66-mile course, you're actually doing your car is a disservice.

Now of course as the responsible adults and law-abiding citizens that we are (well, most of us), we are not going to recreate a scene from The Fast & The Furious on the highway! We can't give our cars a bad name as bimmer drivers are already known for douchebag parking and pretending our turn signals don't exist. This meet-up is just for us to socialize and take a scenic route together but at the same time push our torque-happy cars a little to the limit.

We'll also be stopping by for a drink or two afterwards so I'm open to any ideas. Again, the dates that I propose are a Saturday & Sunday of May 17th or 18th so we'll choose the weekend date and time that works for everyone who wants to attend. If for some reason you feel like taking the Corolla (try not to), 911 Turbo S (I'll buy you a shot), or even the MP4-12C (I'll be your best friend) out of the garage for this meet-up, go for it but we're all hoping to see your special 335d! I'm hoping that all my fellow diesel brothers (and sisters?) can attend this meet-up and please, don't hesitate to PM me with some ideas!

I am moving from Maryland to Oregon, but not until July. Other than that I'd drive down and join, as my brother lives by Marina del Rey and he drives a Mini Cooper S.

Of course you're welcome to join! If you don't mind us bantering about our diesels and carbon buildup issues, you'll be just fine. I'd love to see a tuned FBO N54!

Darn, I was in LA last week. I don't travel there often. Family wedding planned for that weekend in Nashville. So, if I travel anywhere it will be in opposite direction. Enjoy yourselves. I saw shuttle when I was there. Sweet memories for me as I worked 65 shuttle flights.

You spoil all the fun. Mostly we can run over everybody else on the road, at least for short distances. I'm kidding of course, but it is really fun to go the track and see the wide eyes when they find out you have a diesel.

Sadly my ignorance/lack of knowledge is surprised that a 335d is faster than a 335i?

Nah. Not in 0-60. Not in 1/8 mile. Not in 1/4 mile. But in the right circumstances on the track with straights that aren't real long...you will have a hard time getting around one. The torque band is quite high in the 1750-2750 RPM range. But given enough asphalt, the 335i will pull away.

Keep in mind, I'm just blowing smoke in a very anecdotal way, and not citing statistics. The only thing I was really trying to say is that the 335d will surprise you if you haven't ridden in one or driven one.

I have driven the 335is, but not nearly as much as I have driven my own 335d, so I can't give that comparison. I'm just a diesel snob.

I completely forgot that Bimmerfest is on the 17th but I went to one last year and don't expect it to be any different or special this year. If the majority of you do decide to go to the event, we can still meet in the afternoon since Bimmerfest ends at 3pm. It's not like one stays there the entire time anyway.
