Is this normal for BMW?

I apoligize up front if this thread comes off as stupid or misinformed, but here goes. Every day I log into this website (ok more like 100 times a day) and I immediately scroll to the vendors section looking for new and exciting parts available for my car. However, every day, I'm disappointed. What's up with the lack of aftermarket support for this car? Still no true full exhausts systems, coil overs, brake options, and even very few cosmetic upgrade options. Even the stuff that is available, there's usually only one vendor. We have one option for tuning, two options for intakes, one option for down pipe, and dare I say, will there ever be upgraded turbo options?

I understand the car is new, but I'm coming from the import car/motorcycle world where mods are a plenty. My last track bike was a month old when it was fully stripped and track prepped. Import cars seemed to be the same way. I have friend that bought a Toyota FRS, within months of that car being released there were multiple companies offering exhausts, intakes, turbos kits, and various tuning option.

Am I being impatient or is this how the BMW tuning world usually works? Is it because of the lack of vendors, or people doubt the car will succeed? What going on?

It's a brand new model, it takes time to develop the parts before bringing them to market. The vendors have had access to the car for the same amount of time as us. Engineering, testing, and manufacturing takes time.

I understand it's new, hence the examples I used. My last two track toys were a Mitsubishi Evo 10 and Ducati 1198SP, both of which were brand new models, and both of which had a ton of aftermarket support immediately.

Shouldn't the tuners at least have a head start seeing the N55 motor has been used in multiple BMW's? What about other BMW models, I mean outside of the M3 there isn't a ton of support. That's why I'm asking the question if this is normal.....

After-marker parts are derived by market. Once a certain volume of sales have been made then you will more companies commit to making specialized parts. One of the reasons COBB doesn't support the N55 engine any longer is the volume wasn't there to support development cost. Sell 100,000 units then maybe they might consider it. Economics 101, demand creates supply.

evos and ducatis have been out forever, so they have a better sense for the market. Although the 2 is a remake of the 1, its still a brand new line.

if an evo 1 was to release for the first time now, im sure there wouldn't be much support either.

I hope you guys are right. I'm just starting to get an uneasy feeling about the aftermarket support for non M3 BMW's.

But then again, I've never been good at being patient....

What nonsense, clearly written by a punter who has never heard of N54 engined cars !!!!!

The breadth and depth of aftermarket segment is pretty big as the twin turbo motor is fast becoming a legend.....

F series N55 supply chain will catchup eventually, once the geeks have figured out how best to work with latest encrypted ECU's bmw are using.

As a fellow Duc owner () my guess is that some of those things are developed with Ducati ahead of launch, which allows the Termis to be available on Day 1 that new models are sold - but I might be wrong about that...I think Ducati also "shares" engines more across the board than BMW does in cars - which might also make it easier...

I think anything tied to the body (cosmetics) will take a while, but things tied to the engine should be fairly easy to develop specifically for the M235..

I think it's a Marketing thing because here in California there are very few dealers carrying them. In my town of 500,000 + our BMW dealer has had one for 3 months and it's still there and the salesmen are scratching their heads and so am I. I will get one in 18 months when my current lease is up. It will be a 2015 or 16.
