manual transmission noise
can everyone chime in their experience with the tranny? mines pretty notchy and doesn't go into gear totally smooth, but that can be normal. also is it normal for the tranny to make a lot of noise when shifting?

In the 135i I can hear the gear shifts with the radio off, parked and windows down. But when I am driving i never really notice it.

I have no issues with my tranny/shifter it is notchy in a good way. No noise that I know of and 1st to 2nd is no different than any other gear change (I couldn't say that about my Z4 M though).

How do you feel the cars compare in general? Considering the M235i but not sure it will feel raw / exciting enough. Is there a lot more body roll than in the Z4M? |

I am still breaking in my new car so I cannot compare that accurately. The suspension in the Z4M was non adjustable (talking struts/shocks here) and with that in mind it seemed lower and also more stiff than the M235i, however again that is still an early impression. I like the M235i better for being more livable for every day, and still being able to dial it in and have the fun. |

Thanks, for what it's worth, the shifter behavior didn't change on my Z4M from the day I drove it off the lot till I turned it in. I absolutely couldn't stand the 1->2 shift grinding and denial issues which are pretty common in those cars. I think other than that shift it was great.

One thing I don't love is how the engine seems to stay at rpm for a sec when off the throttle during a shift. I've been trying to adjust by coming off the gas a just a bit earlier than I do in my N/A 4 cylinder in a shift. Not sure if this is due to engine inertia, throttle by wire, turbo, or what, but makes for longer pause for the rpms to fall before coming off the clutch. Anyone else notice this? This is my first long term experience with a BMW... |

But i do notice this rev hold in my Lotus Exige S as well and its supercharged but i am pretty sure its drive by cable.. So I am thinking it is due to the turbo causing the rpms to hang longer after taking your foot off the gas to shift.

Mine feels great, took a few days to get accustomed to it after the M3. Prefer this gearbox on m235i
