Fuel Tank Question

Just a general question to those who add fuel additives, cleaners, etc. What instrument/tool do you guys use to push back the metal clip inside the fuel tank neck, thus allowing you to get the additive into the tank?

Thanks.

When you bought the car it should of came with an OEM fuel adapter. Its used in case you're sol at a truck stop and need to fill with larger diameter pumps nozzles.

Edit for link! http://www.amazon.com/TDI-Diesel-Fue.../dp/B00696Y74O

its for a VW but it looks exactly like mine.

As for mine works great may need a new one when this becomes too dirty. Been using optilube/ biodiesel.

For fuel additive, just pour it slowly, no need to push the misfuel prevention block.

I am glad that this was asked. I was at a Shell station by me and was unable to fuel up not because of the nozzle being too big, but the opposite, it was too darn small. Just a green wrapped regular fuel nozzle size....now I know that I will be good no matter where I go. Just ordered it

So you guys are saying remove the cap, then simply pour it into the neck and it'll find its way into the tank?

That's what they're saying, but I have never tried that. I just use that little black gadget that came with the car along with the rubber gloves.

Yep. If you look closely at that plate, it doesn't completely shut off the neck, so just pour slowly and it will seep past the gate

Thanks guys. My car never came with the adapter and while I appreciate the link to it, it costs $30 just for shipping to Canada. I'm better off checking out my local VW and Audi dealers for it.

No need to open the flap. I use xpd and it goes in faster than I can pour it in not that I'm trying to make it overflow. No adapter needed.

Filled up at a Marathon this morning where fleets of garbage trucks fill up. Had to use the adapter to fill the tank (after slowly pouring in additional fluid). WHile filling I though "wow this seems to be really high velocity filling, i wonder what will happen when it is full." Well, the auto stop feature doesn't work with the adapter so it makes quite a mess, especially with those high flow nozzles. For now it's worth the mess since it is a high volume stating (and 300' from my work place!!!) I'll be washing the car tomorrow and waxing that quarter panel.

Best thing is to listen carefully as you'll hear the fuel foaming up as it nears the collar of the tank. Shut it off the second you hear it doing this.
