High Pitch Whine and Rough Idle

Car: 2010 328I E90
Problem: Drove to work no problems. Turned the car off, it sat about five minutes, turned the car back on and I got this high pitch noise coming from the engine compartment. Then the service engine light came on, and then the idle got real bad to where the whole car shakes and it sounds like it wants to cut out.

Turned it on after work, and it seemed fine aside from the Service Engine light being on. Got about a fourth of the way home and the whining started. Got to a stop light and it started to shake like a motherfucker and felt like it was going to cut out on me.

Any ideas?

i wonder if you have a huge vacuum leak somehwere. its hard to tell over the video but that noise can be the sound of air being sucked in from somewhere. the rough idle would be from too much air entering the combustion chamber and causing your fuel mixtures to be off causing the rough idle.

That's the most sense anyone has made since I've asked this question.

I have no idea where this leak would be though, every hose I can see seems to be okay. :/ I'm getting it towed to Coleman's in the morning so hopefully Tom can tell me.

Turned out to be the Vanos unit. Which is on recall right now.

So I should be getting a call tonight or tomorrow morning on the status of the car. Gonna take the car for a spin and make sure it's fixed, don't need a breakdown on the way to work again haha
