Mod that pays for itself

$5 can of Liquid Wrench Silicone Spray.

I just sprayed a rag and applied to all of my door and window seals.

MY SQUEAKY, CREAKY CAR NOW SOUNDS LIKE IT WAS CARVED OUT OF A SINGLE BLOCK OF STEEL.

If you want to have some fun with this, try doing one side, then drive around and listen to the difference.

I'd say that doing this makes my car feel like it is worth twice what it was worth before.

Or just a regular silicone grease. When detailing the car, I treat all rubber seals to replenish them, look like new. Just don't get any on windows. Also, when hood or trunk struts go weak, spray some at the shaft seal and they work like new.

Silicone spray has a bad reputation, probably from the petroleum distillates that are thought to harm the rubber when using a silicone lubricant/cleaner.

This is what I would use: Wurth Rubber Care Silicone Free

Wurth is a great company for plastic and rubber in my experience. I also swear by their lubricants.

For this purpose I bought this stuff called "Gummi Pflege Stift" but haven't actually applied it yet.

+1 to these guys. @daven007, thanks for starting the conversation!

Silicone can cause swelling and stress the materials. As you can imagine, the vert folks are pretty meticulous about this. Here's Kat's write up.

Some notes from the thread...
"A couple of words about products to use on rubber seals: Silicon is a natural enemy of rubber. It makes rubber swell and fracture. Whether your tires or your door seals – do your car a favor, spend the few extra dollars to get good products."

Recommended Materials...
Gummi Pflege - <$10
Krypton GPL205 - circa $22

My mechanic recommended Pledge Wipes for my convert and it worked quite a bit but didn't fix everything. Note: a convert has 100 yards of squeaky rubber trim.

What do you use the GPL205 stuff for? Just some examples that might be relevant for my level of DIY.

The vert folks seem to be using it as a two-stage process. Gummi plflege first, GPL205 second.

I have used it for over ten years and have not had any issues, Always thought that it was mineral oils that would swell rubber, but then it does not mean that I am right. Not that I always trust this, but here is a rebuttal:

Interesting; thanks. I will say that I used silicone spray with no I'll-effects on previous bits, but I'm not sure if the fatigue being referenced by many is one which would show itself immediately or after many years.

Only one way to find out I wonder if I still have my old cowl seal for testing.
