Sears auto for alignment

Just made an appointment at Sears auto to do a summer wheel switch and alignment any reviews from you guys? And I am thinking about the 3 year warranty so I have unlimited alignments for three years....

The good thing about Sears is they are a huge company and anything they damage they fix.

Warranty is usually something they just do with no questions asked, unlike a small shop that a warranty service would cost them time/money.

The bad thing is

The guys doing the alignments are hardly trained and don't really care about your car that well.

I've had them do tires and alignment before on my other cars. They did a fine job, and like the other poster said they will stand behind it.

That said, I think that's about all I would have them do.

Okay cool yeah that all I need from them, just alignment, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than dealership and I like the warranty...

Similar dilemma 15 years ago. I thought the same thing about a firestone close to my house. However when I left the car was undrivable. I returned immediately and the tech guy confided in me that the alignment machine was broken and they had "eyeballed it". I left and went to a very small mom and pop type shop. When I picked the car up it had chalk marks all over the tires. Car drove like a dream! Better than new. That place is no longer in business, while the firestone is still there....

Just saying the large chain stores are only as good as the dropouts that are currently rotating through. Todays equipment with lasers and all may be "foolproof" I don't know. The "art" of doing something well is long gone in most cases. I go to the dealer now-we don't have a good indy shop I can build a relationship with and I have a relationship with my SA and one of the techs. I know it costs a bit more but the piece of mind is worth it to me.

I have now gone through Sears twice for my tire purchase. Sears actually had the best total out the door price for what I wanted.

However, I could tell they were kinda challenged at putting on 265x30 tires. I don't think they do that very often. But they got it done and I inspected my wheels and saw no damage so all went well.

I never considered using them for an alignment, but have nothing bad to say. I just prefer to go to shops that I know are reviewed in my area at being good for custom alignment on lowered cars. I am sure any shop can align a car to OEM specs if the suspension is completely OEM. Mine is not.

I use my excellent BMW indy shop or the equally excellent indy Porsche shop depending on who is able to schedule sooner.

Most Sears techs and such don't realize our suspension components are made of aluminium, and I've seen loads of damage over the years as a result.
