Here's my speculation: M4 may be faster in the short sprint but the M3 GTS would probably win the endurance race.

They Both are almost the same weight. But the M4 has 100 more Torque.
Also it will be very easy to tune the m4. Just chipping it would give u easily 80 hp.

The new M4 is at least 10s faster round the Nurburgring than the E92 M3.

How much faster was the GTS?
(a time set on similar tires obviously)

If you compare those times you should get a good indication on relative performance.

My guess is that the M4 will be faster with the same tires as the GTS.

For this, I am assuming that the S55 is underrated and that it actually produces 440-450hp

The GTS was only 2s faster than the E46 CSL, and 17s faster than the regular E92 M3.

swamp2 has done simulations and I believe that he expects the M4 to be something like 15-20s faster than the E92 M3 around the Ring. BMW has claimed "at least 10s"...

As you stated yourself, the tires are a huge variable

M3 GTS was fitted with a 7-speed M dual clutch transmission, which is proven to be faster then the manual transmission.

The new M3 will still be the fastest manual since the GT3 did NOT have a manual transmission as you clearly stated above...

My fist post was meant to be taken as a bit of humor, but since I refuse to use little smiley faces in my posts I could see how my sarcasm would not translate well in the written form.. My bad...

Nordschleife
BMW M3 GTS 7:48.00
BMW M4 7:??:??

My vote will be that the GTS is a tad faster than M4.

I had the chance to be passenger in my friend's GTS (around the Ring) and to drive it (carefully) on public roads. All I want to say is that it doesn't matter which one is faster because the M4/M3 will never be as track focused than a GTS. It's just amazing how this car is different than a regular M3. When I drove back my E92 zcp I had the feeling I was driving a Prius...

Given the M4 will likely be equipped with Michelin Pilot Super Sports versus the GTS's Pirelli Corsa's I think it will still be close time to the GTS. given a set of Pilot Sport Cup II's I think its gonna be surprisingly fast. I will wager a 7:39 lap is possible on PSC-2. 7:49 on PSS.

True, But a year down the road you are going to have some software.
They have a flash for 435i which give you 100 hp at the crank. So 80 to 100hp is something we can expect for the M4/M3.

Well, True to some sense about the track focused part. But the New M4 was developed strictly around the Nordschleife. Plus the Curb weight of the 2 cars is very similar. M4 has more torque 406 vs 326 which hits at much lower rpm. Dry carbon drive shaft. Even the suspension is bolted directly to the Chassis, which was Tuned by DTM drivers.

"The suspension is a familiar strut-type front end with a multi-link rear. BMW says it took advantage of its DTM drivers Bruno Spengler and Timo Glock in the development of the 2015 M3 and M4 suspension settings, including extensive testing at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. New aluminum suspension elements reduce unsprung weight."

I think the GTS will eat the M4 on the track unless the driver is a pro. But I assume a future special version M4 will be wickedly fast and spank all prior M3s.

The 435 is a mix of luxury, power, reliability and fuel efficiency. It's easy to get extra power by sacrificing some of the other attributes. The M3/M4 is a much more focused on the sport side of the equation out of the box. Don't you think if 80-100 extra HP was available from software, the M division would have done it themselves? I think your a bit optimistic with these claims.
